Need for Speed was pretty groundbreaking for me to see on the BlackBerry PlayBook when attending an event for it before the official launch. We had never seen such high quality graphics come from a BlackBerry device in the past, so it was a pretty big deal. And now three months later, I’m getting sick of its hype a bit. It’s a great game and I think it’s a huge deal to show people around the world when promoting the tablet, but we need that same high quality to reach out to elsewhere.

In a blog post on Inside BlackBerry overviewing some statistics of BlackBerry App World, mentions of versions 3.0 were made. We’ve already seen BlackBerry App World Webstore 3.0 launch last week, but we still have nothing for mobiles. Here’s the little excerpt confirming it’s coming soon:

This was a pretty cool video watch, mainly because RIM got this interesting looking bus for their BlackBerry PlayBook tour in Indonesia. Other than that, it’s the same as usual. Demonstrations with the PlayBook including games (yes, Need for Speed), HDMI output, multitasking, and more. With the huge BlackBerry community in Indonesia, the PlayBook should be a rather exciting addition there.

Just as we can create folders on BlackBerry OS on mobiles, we should be able to on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet as well. I appreciate the different panes including All, Favorites, Media, games, and BlackBerry Bridge, but there should be an option to add folders on the All tab at least to categorize your apps how you want them.
It’s enough we don’t have universal search, so this would be a great addition. Some of you may not need it at the moment, but wait til your application start racking up. It get’s annoying locating apps and scrolling endlessly. What do you think? Folder creation much needed or can you do without?

I’m sure many of you would be fond of the this 16 year old’s vision of what BlackBerry OS 8 should be like. The best part of this concept is the homescreen with swipe gestures and multiple panes that actually have more purpose than they already do at the moment. Check out the whole video to see the concept of OS 8 and let us know what you think.

FileScout for BlackBerry, the ultimate file manager app just updated to version 2.7.0.8, adding a few new features. For starters, it now has BBM 6 integration, so we get to see the BBM Social Platform in play at last. At first you’d expect the new social platform to be game oriented either, but this is a great example showing how it goes well with other apps as well. Here’s the full change log:

The average will just go with using native memo pad on BlackBerry, but sometimes it’s cooler to have an application specified to just that. BlackShopping brings an easy to use shopping list to BlackBerry. You simply check off the items you bought or mark them as “needed” with single clicks. The folks over at MacBerry posted up another clip of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 late yesterday showing off more of its exterior up close and personal as well as the OS itself. As expected the OS is a bit buggy, but that’s normal to see before a device launches. What I really want to see is more of typing on the device and how rapid you can type. A nice factor in the Torch 9860 would be if typing were as easy as real buttons, which is nearly impossible in my opinion but can get pretty close.
