It looks like Telus is picking up a few new BlackBerry smartphones this season, and as soon as August.  While we keep hearing about delays of the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it seems like rumored launch dates are emerging for Telus with dates as early as August 18th.  Here’s the lineup of launch dates:

It’s standard for these to come up as we approach the launch of a device.  Last time around was for the BlackBerry PlayBook where the FCC approval showed up online, and before that we can’t even remember because it’s been so long since RIM released a smartphone.  Here we see the BlackBerry Bold 9900 get FCC love, so we’re still getting warmer as far as a launch date goes.  Interesting find here is that RIM has been testing the device as early as February when we were all drooling over the PlayBook.  Nice distractions!

The key here is “no BlackBerry Bridge required.”  Having apps that do what some bridged apps do is somewhat a luxury at the moment with the BlackBerry PlayBook.  Hello Note is a easy free application that allows you to create, view and edit notes easily.  The user interface is just as you see it above.  You create a new note and it automatically saves into a sidebar where you’ll be able to find them with the search bar once your database grows.  And once again, you won’t need to Bridge your PlayBook and pull up your memos app any longer!

Google+ (Plus) isn’t available to the general public just yet, but is currently in private beta where you need to receive an invite to test it out from someone else.  We already knew it would get an Android application, but no love for the BlackBerry.  What’s currently available is the “web app” which is pretty much the mobile site with a nice and easy UI to use as seen above.

AT&T Navigator, powered by the one and only TeleNav updated to version 2.3 not too long ago.  You all may not be on AT&T, but those who are with the carrier should be very pleased with the navigation app now.  It’s available for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Torch 9800 running OS 6.0, but I have had it working on my unlocked Bold 9780 as well.  For once I notice a lot of new changes in the update including a new UI and faster movement within app.  Here’s the change log:

  • New home screen that immediately shows a map of the user’s current location with options along the bottom of the screen. Users can toggle traffic and traffic camera overlays onto the map
  • One-box search using menu or space bar shortcut to quickly search for a business or address
  • New icon based Places menu for easier point of interest searches
  • Multi-Routes to provide up to three route options per trip with route previews

To update you’ll be prompted to download it upon opening AT&T Navigator.  If not, point your BlackBerry Browser to ota.telenav.com

We already saw BlackBerry App World 3.0 take off for the webstore, but we’ve been left in the dark for the update to hit mobile devices.  In my opinion they both should have happened at the same time, but that’s the reality of it.  BBNews.pl got a leaked screenshot of what looks to be the next update for App World which is v3.0.  There’s no confirmation if this is legit or not but it does look a lot like the webstore with the application panes up top. If it’s legit, I definitely see this getting laggy on the Torch and latest Bold just because.  Either way, we wait for App World 3.0 for mobiles to take off.  There’s no word on it at all yet so we wait.

We’ve seen torrent downloaders come to BlackBerry in the past, and vDownloader seems to have been on BlackBerry before but has been updated and brought back to our app store.  It’s pretty straight forward – download torrents on the go whether it be music, videos, or anything else available out there.  I imagine it being fluid over WiFi but take your chances on 3G.  Watch out BlackBerry users with limited data plans please!

Note: Screenshot above looks to be coming from an Android – we’ll have BlackBerry images up soon.  Sorry folks!

We’re slowly getting into a new generation of BlackBerry devices with a lot more to offer than we’ve seen in the past.  The line up is mainly focused around the BlackBerry Bold 9900 which was already announced by RIM back at BlackBerry World 2011, and then there’s some other devices including the new Torch in two flavors and a Curve.  U.S. Cellular is picking up the BlackBerry Torch 9850 and Curve 9350 it looks like as both devices appear on a mail-in rebate form for the carrier.  Both devices get $100 rebate, which looks like a good discount off the price.  We assume the Torch 9850 will go up as $199.99 and the Curve price is up in the air anywhere lower than the Torch.  No announcements from the U.S. Cellular yet, but they’re probably waiting for RIM’s announcement first.

Yesterday we got to see some more leaked images of the BlackBerry Torch 9860, and today we get a video once again, as we’ve seen brief ones in the past already.  This clip shows us more of a hands on with the Torch 9860 which only excites us more for it.  I’m loving the speed on this thing, but it does have its flaws due to bugs I’m sure.
