It looks like BlackBerry News for PlayBook just got updated to version 1.1.  In this update, we see a few new features including Portrait mode support.  In my opinion, I believe all native BlackBerry PlayBook apps should be supported in portrait mode.  Any way, here’s the full change log for BlackBerry News for PlayBook v1.1:

  • Portrait mode support for all screens
  • “Read” articles are marked as such
  • “New” content indicator on home screen
  • Ability to update channels through data tethering
  • Ability to switch channels in magazine view
  • In the article view, ability to go to previous/next article
  • View a feed immediately after subscribing to it
For those who haven’t tried BlackBerry News before, it’s absolutely free and it’s pretty much the same as News Feeds for BlackBerry where you get all your RSS feeds in a nice and easy to use user interface.  Head over to App World to pick up the latest update of BlackBerry News for PlayBook.

The next device we’ll be seeing quite a bit of leakage for is the BlackBerry Curve 9360.  I really can’t imagine who would go for the device when there’s all these other ones out already including the Bold 9900, Torch 9860, and Torch 9810.  If you’re a keyboard lover, Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 would suffice.  Plus you get touchscreen.  I guess there may very well be an audience out there who just want QWERTY with no touchscreen, or just prefer a smaller device (enter the Bold 9790!).  Any way the Curve 9360 made its leaked appearance on some Bell documentation showing a launch date of August 29th.  Now the pricing for it has leaked.

At BlackBerry World earlier this year when the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 was originally announced, we learned that the device would carry on Amazon MP3 as the provider for the native Music Store.  By then the BlackBerry PlayBook already was launched and has its music store powered by 7Digital.  When that was first announced on the PlayBook, I thought it was cool they went with 7Digital where you can have the app on your BlackBerry and PlayBook sharing the same music library all the time.

With RIM’s official announcements of the new elite BlackBerry 7 OS devices, the BlackBerry Torch 9810 was spotted in both black and white.  When it launched for Rogers, we didn’t see white available but it looks like a week later it’s available.  On a three year contract, you can get the white BlackBerry Torch 9810 for only $199.99.  Click the link below for more details.

Screenshot apps are quite popular for BlackBerry, as there are many different in variety.  BGT, the lead theme builders have let us know that they have just released their first app. Snappy is a screenshot application allowing to capture the current screen you are on to share with friends or just to keep in your images folder just because.  When you capture the screen, you’ll see Snappy the monster come out with a bubble over his head saying “Say Cheese.”  Don’t worry, Snappy does not show up in the screenshot, only for entertainment purposes when you take one.  Click the link below to check out more or to grab a copy.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 in my opinion was a big hit device as far as BlackBerry devices go.  It was the first BlackBerry to get a full physical keyboard with touchscreen capability.  Although the device lacked speed with its old school processor, it was still a preferred device for many.  Now that there’s other new BlackBerry devices on the market including the Torch 9810/9850/9860 and Bold 9900/9930, We want to know who’s staying loyal to the original Torch form factor and going with the Torch 9810. Drop us a line in the comments!

Yesterday the BlackBerry Bold 9930 got a leaked OS to 7.0.0.317, and now today 7.0.0.340 has made its way available (not officially).  In this build, you get NFC up on the Verizon 9930 and perhaps other CDMA 9930′s as well.  This OS also includes updates for BlackBerry Protect, Docs2Go, and BlackBerry Podcasts app.  Download and install at your own risk as this is leaked.

ios7

iOS7 for BlackBerry is a cool theme giving you the look of both OS 7 and iOS at the same time.  OS 7 kicks in with the new style icons, but around them are the rounded “bubbles” as you would see in iOS.  You get ten icons up top, 5 over 5, and then another row on the bottom as you would see in iOS which also gets 5 icons.  Features include:

  • Bouncing Icons.
  • 12/15 icon Home Screen, depending on the device.
  • Changeable app order.
  • Changeable wallpaper, the Dock remains unchanged.

iOS7 is supported on both OS 5 and OS 6 devices.  Obviously no OS 7 support yet due to the lack of a theme builder but I’m sure that will change soon enough.  Click the link below to check out more on iOS7 theme for BlackBerry or to grab a copy.
