UPDATE: PlayBook OS 2.0 is scheduled to launch right after DevCon 2011.

We all hoped for the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 to launch today since BlackBerry Bridge updated.  There’s no relief for that happening any longer since RIM mentioned OS 2.0 will be launching “in coming months.”  I assume we’ll see it a DevCon this year.  Any way, OS 2.0 will include native email and other apps including BBM, Calendar, MemoPad, etc.  Also we’ll be seeing Android Player, BlackBerry Video Store we just mentioned, and BlackBerry Balance!  On the call Mike Lazaridis admits that the PlayBook is lacking applications (and quality of apps) but does mention that new applications including games, media, and productivity applications are on the way. along with the update.  Also mentioned is that we’ll be seeing a lot of these features at DevCon next month.  Now that is excitement.

During the RIM conference call going on right now as we speak, RIM discussed a BlackBerry Video Store launching for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  With the Video Store, you’ll be able to buy or rent movies directly on the PlayBook.  The coolest factor about it? You’ll be able to connect via HDMI to your television and enjoy your media that way.

There isn’t much of any other detail on this so far, but it is “coming soon” as mention in the call.  Who’s excited?

BlackBerry Bridge isn’t the only bridge application that’s been updated. It looks like SMS Bridge also has received an update from version 12.0, to version 13.0.  We reviewed SMS Bridge a couple weeks ago, but for those who don’t know SMS Bridge gives you the ability to receive and reply to SMS on your PlayBook for a very small cost of $3.99. With the new update it inserts the “@bb.sms” at the end of  your contacts number so you can compose new messages from your PlayBook. If you don’t want it in there anymore you can select delete “@bb.sms” contacts. There are also a few minor fixes and updates as well.

You can pick up SMS Bridge here.

PTCI has release OS 7.0.0.362 for the BlackBerry Bold 9930, Curve 9350 and Torch 9850 all together.  Great for CDMA users who aren’t too satisfied with the latest leaks and want to go official with a newer build.  I haven’t tried this one yet, but maybe will on my Bold 9930.  Let us know what you spot in this new build.

Earlier today BlackBerry Bridge updated to version 1.0.6.5.  You know what that means – a PlayBook update soon perhaps? That’s the way it’s been so far and I doubt we’ll be disappointed today.  Also tonight is RIM’s earnings call and maybe they’ll mention an OS update for the PlayBook, hoping it’s 2.0 so we get Android Player and native PIM apps.  In the meantime, click the link below to download the latest version of BlackBerry Bridge.
