Being a parent of a 6 year old, I try and justify some of my tech purchases. Is this item going to be kid friendly?! When I purchased my BlackBerry PlayBook the day it officially launched I wasn’t sure. After using it for about 5 months I see that the PlayBook isn’t just a win for adults, businessmen (and women), students, but for children as well.

It only made sense for Evernote to have an application for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  It goes hand in hand when wanting to access your notes across all platforms (computer, BlackBerry smartphone and now PlayBook).  So if you want to have your notes all centralized in one same database on different platforms or just securely keep it safe as it saves online, then check out Evernote.  It’s free and definitely an awesome app, especially now with PlayBook support.

When the new BlackBerry Curve was announced, Sprint was quick to announce that they would be carrying it and that it would be available as soon as September 9th.  Well just one day before launch, they announced on Twitter that the date has been “shifted” to October now.  Now specific date yet or reasons why but that’s the latest word.

If there’s any application I missed when switching to the BlackBerry Bold 9900, it was Pandora.  I used to use it every day for hours at a time streaming music.  BBM Music has been good to me, but Pandora is on a whole new level on its own.  It was nice seeing that Pandora updated last night to version 1.1.11 bringing OS 7 support at last!  I haven’t spotted in App World yet, but CrackBerry found that if you download it directly from pandora.com, you’ll get it.  Awesome.

win a free gift card playbook

So RIM is giving out $100 gift cards to folks who buy the BlackBerry PlayBook between September 7th and 22nd.  But don’t take it so much for granted as you have to work for it (not really).  Here’s how to get you

  • To get your $100 gift card:
  • Must be a BlackBerry user
  • Legal resident of the US or Canada.
  • Complete the Offer Claims process within the BlackBerry website
  • Mail a copy of the dated invoice, sales receipt or transaction record, a cutout of the original UPC bar code and the Offer claim receipt to specified address.
  • Agree to Exclusive BlackBerry PlayBook Back at school Offer Terms and Conditions

So yeah, the process may seem a bit annoying and lengthy, but it’s 100 bucks RIM wants to give you for getting a PlayBook.

bbm music songs removed

It’s nothing crazy to see, but I found it interesting that a few songs on my BBM Music list appeared faded on my playlist.  When I tried playing them, out came a message a seen above.  From the looks of it perhaps record companies have pulled tracks by request of the artist or whomever.  The reason? From my experience here, it was Red Hot Chili Peppers tracks that seemed to be new, so I guess the record companies would rather have people buy the music than stream it through a service like BBM Music until later – just an idea.  Have you spotted any tracks faded on your playlist?

The BlackBerry Curve 9360 would be a great entry in the prepaid market wouldn’t it?  It’s a basic device offered a low price but you get great features including OS 7, a bit of a faster processor (800MHz), and of course NFC!  Usually when a BlackBerry hits prepaid, it’s usually old and outdated.  So it would be cool seeing T-Mobile offer up the all new Curve 9360 under prepaid but emphasizing that it is a new and fresh BlackBerry device and not just any older one.  According to the flyer, T-Mobile will be offering the Curve 9360 for $229.99, and remember that’s when purchasing the device for a prepaid line.

speednotes 1speednotes 2

SpeedNotes is a great way of taking notes at a fast pace.  So you might be on the go or just in need of jotting a lot down.  Many of you are thinking what the difference is between SpeedNotes and your native memopad that’s preloaded on your BlackBerry.  Well when you type away on SpeedNotes, you’ll have everything you type automatically backed up.  That means you can push the back button, end button, or exit the application in whole and all your text will remain to be saved.

9930_non_cam

Don’t forget that BlackBerry smartphones are great for corporates.  The original BlackBerry didn’t have a camera as it was targeted towards business users who favored email.  Also some corporate environments do not permit phones with cameras inside conferences rooms for security purposes.  Any way, Sprint is launching the BlackBerry Bold 9930 with no camera on September 9th.  It is being priced at $249.99.
