Earlier today, the news broke out from RIM that they just took on Alec Saunders as the new Vice President of Developer Relations & Eco System Development. Based on the interview posted up at the BlackBerry Dev Blog, it looks like it should be a big game changer now and hopefully encouragement to build apps for BlackBerry will be higher for developers now. We’re excited to see what’s in store for us next month at DevCon with some new board members and RIM’s new innovations. Click the link below to check out the full interview with Alec Saunders.

In case you didn’t know by now, Wikitude provides a service on their BlackBerry app which isn’t available for other platforms – BBM. Upon opening up Wikitude, you’ll see different categories to browse including Closest, Worlds, Wikipedia, Gowalla, Flickr, YouTube, and even BBM Chat! By clicking BBM chat, you’ll see users who are around you using augmented reality. You can view them through your camera, or click the button up top to see users in a list.
Now if you don’t want to participate in your BBM pin going out in the open, you can have it set as Invisible in options (I think that’s what it is by default).
Either way, there’s a bunch of apps and websites out there for BBM social networking. Wikitude gives it to you sort of by showing who’s around you with a BBM photo of the user and some basic info. Are you tuned into it already?

For the longest time I like many other BlackBerry Twitter users have been waiting for RIM to update their Twitter app to have multiple account support, and it looks like RIM is finally answering the call. We got word from N4BB that RIM is getting ready to release v 2.1 with the following features:
- Multiple account support
- Last tweet preview no longer available
- Slight UI change
It seems that this new version will be available in Beta Zone next week! So keep an eye out.

Fat Face for BlackBerry is a fun application where you get to play around with friends photos. For example, you can make their ears, eyes, or even mouth larger. You can choose to make the whole face fat if you want too. I’ve seen apps like this on iOS and Android, so it’s nice to have something to show when whipping out your BlackBerry in front of other platform users!
Grab Fat Face from BlackBerry App World for only 99 cents.

I saw this pop up for me the other day, and thought it was just a bug until now. It looks like the folks at BBOS also noticed that BBM Music Beta had a “upgrade to premium account” window pop up on them as well. Here’s how to work around it.
Dismiss the pop ups for it by hitting the back button, then close the app completely. Reload BBM Music, have your songs refresh and you’ll be good to go. To check when your expiration date is, you can go to Options and see when the date is ending.

One of the key features of the BlackBerry PlayBook is BlackBerry Bridge. Some see it as an inconvenience because they’d rather have everything natively on the tablet, while others see it as a secure way of accessing your personal stuff including email, BBM, calendar, and more. I find myself not using Bridge as much as I see others use it and wanted to know how the majority went about it. Some people I found having it connected all the time when using their PlayBook and others only did when wanting to BBM or email freely on a larger touchscreen display. Let us know in the comments!

Once again, Hedone Design has unleashed the latest and greatest theme. This one’s called HDV Carbon. As you can see by the screenshots above, it has a clean and futuristic look to it. The icons are all placed in a circle and then lights up when selected. The cool part about it is that you get two home screens, “one informational, one practical.” Here are the key functions of the theme:
- Home – hide menu and show clock, date and other information.
- Escape key – show menus
- Shift + R – open first (middle) slot
- DFK – see web site for details
- Battery – left half circle
- Signal – right half circle
- WiFi – inner right half circle
Check out more on HDV Carbon at the PocketBerry Store using the link below. The price is $6.99 for the theme, not the cheapest you’ve spent on one, but worth it with the quality you’re getting.
