The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is successfully launching all over the world, almost as much as the Curve it looks like. Today it hits a whole new market in the Philippines. Unfortunately there is no word on pricing or which carriers will be heavily promoting the device yet but I’m sure that’ll come soon enough. Below is the full press release from Research In Motion.
Manila, the Philippines – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today launched the new BlackBerry® Bold™ 9900 smartphone in the Philippines. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone is expected to be available in the Philippines on 7th October from all carriers and authorized retail channels.

The last two weeks we’ve been letting you know about the BlackBerry PlayBook getting discounted at many different retail channels. From seeing that, it makes the PlayBook look like it’s getting phased out or doing poor enough in sales which results in a drastic price drop. RIM has something to say about it to clear up any confusions:
The official retail price of BlackBerry PlayBook has not changed. However, as mentioned on the Q2 earnings call on Sept. 15th, we have a number promotional plans in place for the fall with our retail partners that are intended to drive sell-through and increased adoption of the BlackBerry PlayBook. We are already starting to see some of these promotions being implemented in the form of instant rebates and gift cards within the consumer channel, and expect these promotions to continue into the holiday season. The BlackBerry PlayBook has established itself as a high-performance tablet, and we are confident that these activities, along with the upcoming software upgrade, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, will help to generate an increase in demand and sell through of the BlackBerry PlayBook over the upcoming months.
Pretty much RIM is saying that they are not dropping the official price of the BlackBerry PlayBook. Any promotions involving rebates and slashed prices are from the retailer as mentioned in the earnings call that occurred on September 15th.
Thanks for the tip Bogizo!

Back in August, we let you know that Telus was launching the BlackBerry Curve 9360 in white and pink. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Telus has the BlackBerry Curve 9360 in pink available and $25 from each device purchased will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This isn’t the first time we see Telus launch a program like this, as we’ve seen it with other generations of the Curve and the Pearl.

This summer was filled with lots of iPhone speculation and what the next fifth generation would include. Last year with the iPhone 4 launching, we ran a little poll to see who was interested in switching to the new iPhone or staying with BlackBerry. Those who wanted to stay with BlackBerry had hope in RIM coming out with better devices suited for today’s standards. Now that we see OS 7 devices available, QNX on the PlayBook and to smartphones soon in 2012, will you continue staying or jump ship to the new iPhone?

- Fix for OS7 devices: Screen refresh issues when using [SHIFT]+[O] (sort) and [SHIFT]+[I] (invert sort order)

You may have already figured it out by looking at the title, but Win Phone 7 is a theme based on Windows Phone 7. Included you get the full look of the new Windows OS, but still a BlackBerry at heart of course. Applications can be customized to your own taste so don’t worry about them being locked down. This theme is also wallpaper friendly, although the icons do take up quite a bit of space as is. You can grab it today for only 99 cents as a Deal of the Day special at the PocketBerry Store.

It’s about time we see 3D gaming actually come to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Ronen from BerryReview spotted that Polarbit launched four games for the BlackBerry PlayBook created using the Native SDK. At first we only saw Need for Speed and Dead Space as the only 3D games and now more are coming along. The four titles include Toon Wars, Wave Blaster, Raging Thunder, and Armageddon Squadron. So far I played Toon Wars which is an awesome shooter game and Wave Blaster which is a boat racing game. Check out all four titles available at BlackBerry App World for PlayBook. Each game is only $2.99.
