YouMail has been a long time favorite app of mine. Visual Voicemail is becoming even more popular, with the ability to see your voicemail, and choose which ones you want to listen to, as well as also visually seeing your voicemail instead of having to listen to it. YouMail has definitely been a leader in this field. You can find YouMail on just about any platform but this latest update for BlackBerry users is something that will catch the attention of current users as well as potential new users.

YouMail released a statement on their Blog about the new release and its new features which include:

  • Visual caller id: Now you’ll really know who your callers are – even when they’re not in your address book!   You’ll see a picture, name, city and state, and number for almost every call!
  • Contact uploads:   Now you can upload your contacts, link them to Facebook, and get even better Caller ID and smarter greetings.  To upload contacts, hit Menu, Settings, and Upload Contacts.   To connect to Facebook, hit Menu, Settings, Account, and Connect to Facebook.
  • Faster playing: You can now hit the “space bar” to play a message- no more scrolling to the play button

With these new features everyone should jump on board with YouMail. Oh and a little disclaimer this update is only for BlackBerry users running OS 5.0 and higher.

BlackBerry OS 7 has Universal Search just like OS 6 did.  It’s been improved by search results categorized to immediate files on your phone and then extended searches to third party applications.  Also, voice search has been enabled.  I never really gave it a chance until recently and found that it works really well.  As seen in the screenshot above I said PocketBerry, and it came out like that.  Letters not being capitalized isn’t an issue so it’s no big deal.  I still have no use for the voice universal search, but some of you may.  How many of you are actually using it?

As QR codes are becoming more and more popular so is the need to have QR scanners. For some it’s essential or would make life easier to have the ability to create your own QR codes. This is where QRem comes in. I’ve had the opportunity to play with various QR apps but this one takes the cake. QRem was developed by CornPlay and they did a great job of loading it with a lot of features, such as:

  • Creating QR codes:
  • Inputting your own text
  • Creating QR codes of core applications on BlackBerry smartphones:
  • Calendar
  • Contacts
  • Memo
  • BlackBerry Pins
  • Tasks
  • Emails
  • Phone Numbers
  • GPS Coordinates
  • URLs
  • Allows you to view history of codes you scanned or created

1.2_payment

Google Wallet just officially took off, which is an application that works around NFC (near field communication).  So basically it allows you to store your credit/debit cards onto your Google Wallet application, enabling you to make wireless payments in store by swiping your handheld.  It looks like Google has support for the Nexus S, but we’d love to see it get extended to the BlackBerry as well.

But I wouldn’t get my hopes up.  We still don’t have a Google Plus app, and there doesn’t seem to be a plan for it anytime in the near future.  I guess we really want NFC apps in general but Google Wallet would be an excellent start if you ask me.

Just yesterday we saw T-Mobile stores receive BlackBerry Curve 9360 dummy units and that alone hinted that the device was bound to launch soon.  Now a day later, T-Mobile has announced the device officially.  The Curve 9360 comes equipped with the latest OS 7, 480 x 360 resolution, 800MHz, WiFi, GPS, 5MP camera with a flash, and more.

As far as availability, business customers can get it today, while all retail stores will have it on shelves ready for sale on September 28th.  The pricing is set at $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a 2 year strings attached contract is required of course.  Expect the device to launch in two colors – black and merlot.

UberSocialBBMUberSocialBBM2

It’s no secret that applications all over are starting to get integrated with BlackBerry Messenger.  A lot of apps are ones you don’t even expect to have it, but developers are creative enough to do that.  Now it looks like the famous Twitter client for BlackBerry UberSocial is getting BBM integration in the near future.  Currently users are doing some private beta testing and BerryReview was able to snag some screenshots showing how it is.

iberry

Quite a few applications and themes are on sale it looks like.  Since iBerry is one of the most popular themes out there (and it’s been for years now), I figured to let you know about it’s huge price cut it has for a limited time.  According to the description, iBerry is the most accurate iPhone theme for BlackBerry.  There are plenty of other good ones as well too so we’re not bashing anyone here.  iBerry works really smooth on my BlackBerry with no lag at all with all the apps I have installed.

Now for the huge price cut, you save 83% instantly.  The normal price is $5.99, and now it’s 99 cents for a limited time.  Check it out!

There’s plenty of ways to get around your RSS fixation on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  You can natively access reader.google.com from your browser and be fine with it.  As far as apps go, there’s a bunch to choose from as well.  Now a new one is in town called Newspile.  It connects directly to your Google Reader account so you’ll get all your feeds right away without the need of adding all your subscriptions again.

RIM along with Telus and Rogers were given Canada’s Top Employers for Young People award.  These three companies made it in the top 100 organizations, so others are in as well.  This is how they were judged and nominated.  The companies were interviewed on topics including ability to attract people, tuition assistance, training, benefits and mentorship.  RIM got chosen because of the free BlackBerrys they give out to all employees and the relaxing environment with casual dress code.  Also they get onsite massage services and ice cream Fridays.  Awesome.  Is your company that sweet to you?
