After this outage that cause many BlackBerry users to go throw withdrawals, and then quickly relapse back into their crackberry ways we can now return to our regular scheduled programming!

A lot of people had gained a bad taste in their mouth towards RIM, and their BlackBerry smartphone, because of the issue. This I can understand; not having the ability to get your information on the go, whether it was a tweet, a Facebook message, an email or a BBM. I mean come on to have the ability to stay connected while on the go with those who matters most is the reason we chose to use a BlackBerry Smartphone, regardless of the use (work, play or both). So the gripes, the complaining, the anger, and the impatiently waiting is all that we could do. The behavior is justified because we are a “please me now” society, and if we can’t get it now we through fits.

Foursquare for BlackBerry just got an update to version 3.3.  In this update we see a new icon emerge.  We’ve had the same one for quite a while and change is always good.  Also we see a notifications tab which is the Foursquare logo on the upper left hand corner.  You can see how many new ones are available as you’ll get a small pop up.  N4BB scored a full change log showing all the new features and fixes:

  • Notification Tray – Just click on the Foursquare logo and see if you earned a new badge, who has commented on your checkin and so much more
  • Continued improvements to GPS and location support
  • Updated setting and account management

We wrote a last month about how the BlackBerry PlayBook is great for children too. Well here is another reason why the BlackBerry PlayBook is great for kids, and that reason is Abcday. Abcday is an app that teaches your child(ren) their ABC’s in a very fun and entertaining way.

Along with using a very nurturing voice, and some fun music, and graphics such as bubble popping games Abcday also includes:

  • Reading Time – Recognizing letters with animals (learning the animals name)
  • Writing Time – Follow the stars to show the turtle how to write each letter (lowercase, and uppercase letters)
  • Play Time – Tickle the shell with your finger so it opens, and shows an animal. Also includes a quiz to complete
  • Sing A Long – Sing the Alphabet song, and pop bubbles to see what animal corresponds with the letter

Check out the images and video below that show off some of the features and games offered in this app.

ubuntu 1ubuntu 2

I came across a new theme in the PocketBerry Store inspired by Ubuntu.  The home screen gets three icons on the bottom centered off, and the menu is as usual with six icons across and the full drop down.  The theme is of course based on the Linux operating system Ubuntu with the icons and over all layout.  It’s free to download from the PocketBerry Store too so click the link below to download it today.
