The folks over at BBin managed to get Android OS Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich launchers running on the BlackBerry PlayBook!  The OS we see here is the developer beta of 2.0, which took off at DevCon last week.  What’s really interesting to see here is that the Android OS still communicates with QNX.  In the clip we see WiFi settings clicked in Android where QNX pops up with its WiFi settings.  Check out the clip!

Browsing App World on my BlackBerry PlayBook this morning I noticed Home Run Madness. This is an awesome app if you are a baseball fan, like home run derby’s, or don’t mind trying something new.  Home Run Madness is a cartoon like baseball home run derby, where you have 50 pitches to hit as many home runs as you can. You are graded on a point system where you get 100 points for every home run, 20 points for every foul ball, and 200 points for hitting the pitcher (which all the fans boo). To hit the pitch you have to slide your finger up the screen (not all the way) to make the batter swing.

I was using Poynt for my BlackBerry PlayBook and I realized that Poynt using RIM’s push APIs to develop PlayBook pairing was a great idea. For those of you that haven’t used Poynt’s PlayBook pairing it’s a simple concept. You pair your BlackBerry smartphone and your BlackBerry PlayBook one time, and any time you use Poynt on your PlayBook you can send commands to your BlackBerry smartphone such as adding reservations to your calendar or even placing phone calls. Now what the end user doesn’t see is the behind the scenes on how it works, which is still pretty simple. Using RIM’s Push API’s to push information from the PlayBook to Poynt and it’s servers which then pushes it to your BlackBerry smartphone.

Since the end of July, we have seen many existing apps such as Foursquare, Poynt, and Score Mobile dive into the promise of BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 with BBM Integration; as well as many other new apps developed to support this brand new feature such as Wikitude (Available for the BlackBerry OS 7 platform).  RIM has even came up with a “BBM Connected” Category in BlackBerry App World’s Carousel. Even with RIMs push with advertisements and commercials it seems that a lot of BlackBerry users are afraid to go out and explore.

So there’s a white BlackBerry Bold 9900 after all.  We saw some images here and there showing that a BlackBerry Bold 9900 in white color is on the way.  Now we finally see Vodfone give us a sneak peek of the device.  I was curious to see how the battery door would be since the black comes with a carbon fiber look to it.  Based on the video, it’s a flush white color which isn’t bad either.  The trackpad is black as expected and the whole trim is covered in chrome as well.

For those of you who are familiar with one of the most popular children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson you will really enjoy this application. However, if you haven’t but are a teacher, or a parent of small children or just love children’s books this is a definite must have for you.

The guys at Marmalade have put together an interactive book of Harold and the Purple Crayon. In this book you help Harold tell the story! Each page of the story allows children to color-in Harold’s drawing, bringing the scene to life in beautiful animation. The Harold and the Purple Crayon comes complete with multiple story modes such as:

  • Touch Tale is the signature mode where your interaction and exploration are required to tell the story.
  • Read to Me is a narrated version of the story where children can follow along, focusing on vocabulary building and word recognition
  • Read Alone is perfect for young readers or parents wishing to read the story to their young child.

boost mobile style 9670

A tipster from Boost Mobile let us know that the company has decided to get rid of the BlackBerry Style 9670, already.  With that said, it’s obvious that the device is not doing well at all.  Sprint did away with it at first then later passed it along to their prepaid division Boost which obviously did poorly.

As of now, retail locations are still carrying the device and it seems to be available online still.  Perhaps we’ll see them get rid of whatever stock is around and that’ll be the end of it.

If you where hoping to get the Blackberry boost fear not there are plenty of other options available at dialaphone, visit the site now to compare phones and get a great deal at dialaphone.co.uk
