plants vs zombiesplants vs zombies 2

Confusing right? I’m looking at the screenshots and that looks like Plants vs Zombies for sure.  So who released this game?  Was it PopCap? Nope! VietNam Game Studio did!  So we assume this is obviously a replica of some sort that some how made its way through approval in the PocketBerry App Store.  You can grab it for $4.99 using the link below.  I’m not sure how long the link will be live.

att logo

I was at the AT&T store over the weekend and managed to chat a bit with a BlackBerry representative in the store handing out marketing promos and such for the brand.  We discussed PlayBook quite a bit and features we’re dying to see surface (native PIM apps, etc.).  I mentioned the BlackBerry Bold 9900, and he said they’re getting ready to launch it on AT&T "next week" with no exact date mentioned.  So there really is no solid here other than a BlackBerry rep saying it is coming up.  We already know AT&T announced it was coming soon on Twitter over the weekend which led me to believe this guy was being a bit accurate and wasn’t far from reality.  I must say I’m looking forward to the 9900 as the 9810 doesn’t cut it for us former Bold users.

att bold 9900 coming soon tweet

It’s time for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to launch already.  Every other major US carrier has it except AT&T!  So far we see the Torch 9810 from AT&T and everything seems to have halted since then.  AT&T tweeted out over the weekend that they are launching the Bold 9900 soon.

Thanks Bogizo for the tip!

Samurai-II-Vengeance

Back at BlackBerry World earlier this year we got to see Samurai 2 on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  This was of course a tease since we hadn’t seen any 3D gaming besides Need For Speed on the PlayBook at that time.  We got to play Samurai 2 at DevCon last week, and now the game is officially released!

  • Slice up enemies with the samurai’s ultimate weapon: the katana
  • Balanced combat system encourages defensive maneuvers in concert with fierce attacks
  • Solve puzzles to make your way through vivid levels packed with color and detail
  • Reap the rewards of combat by using points to upgrade your health, unlock new skills, and upgrade your existing attack combos
  • An original soundtrack draws you into the Japan of old
  • New survival mode gives you an opportunity to hone your skills

webworks html5 building

At DevCon 2011, we got to see a lot of new application development with BlackBerry WebWorks, since that’s the direction RIM is going.  It just got updated to version 2.2 with a few nice features including Mac OSX support, Payment API, and more.  Here’s the full change log:

  • Mac OSX Support – Need we say more? This very exciting and highly demanded feature is now available. A Mac version of the WebWorks SDK installer is available for developers to use and build WebWorks applications using OSX.
  • Payment API – the same API that was recently made available for the BlackBerry® WebWorks™ SDK for PlayBook OS can now be used to sell digital goods through WebWorks applications running on BlackBerry Smartphones. This feature gives developers an incredible monetization opportunity for increasing the revenue of their applications. Read more about our payment service.

bubble wrap 1bubble wrap 2

I guess one of the more popular useless apps for touchscreen devices is bubble wrap popping apps.  They serve no purpose whatsoever, I don’t even see how they really kill time.  But for those who are jealous of iOS and Android users showing off such apps, you can waste your time just like them now on your PlayBook with Pop Bubble Wrap.  All you have to do is pop bubbles.  But wait, there’s two player mode as well on here.  Now things get interesting.  When in two player mode, each player has a color to go by (red or green).  Each player must keep popping the bubble in which their color lands on.  At the end you see who popped the most and that person’s the winner.  Yay!  Click the link below to purchase Pop Bubble Wrap for 99 cents.  A trial is also available.

BlackBerry DevCon 2011 was full of lots of application demonstrations on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  More or so we saw games from other platforms work great on the PlayBook.  One of the great examples was BackBreaker.  BackBreaker is a really popular game for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android, and iOS.  It’s become really popular on mobiles over the last year too with its addictive game play.  Now we see it coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook, but teased at first in front of a live audience at DevCon.  Check out the clip above to see how smooth it works on the PlayBook.

are your ears ringing

So you want to be really annoying around your friends or just in public at your local coffee shop.  Are Your Ears Ringing for BlackBerry PlayBook creates a very silent ring which will drive people around you nuts.  Some of you might have ringtones that do the same as well, but with the application you get options to set how long you want it to go for and a play/stop button.  You can get it at BlackBerry App World for only 99 cents.
