Last week SimCity and The Sims 3 for BlackBerry were RIM’s latest “Thank You Gift” applications, meaning they’re available to download free until the end of December. Personally I couldn’t get the games downloaded on my Bold 9900 at all, we received a few comments and emails from users who had the same issue as well (all of which were using OS 7 devices). Even when searching within BlackBerry App World, they wouldn’t show up at all. When clicking a direct link for the game download it would show that the device is not supported. I checked back in the “Thank You Gift” category of BlackBerry App World only to find that both games are now available there with no issues downloading. So head over to App World and grab yours or click the links below to get there directly.

When I first started using my BlackBerry Bold 9930, I had the Bank of America application downloaded which didn’t work properly at all. In fact it displayed sideways which obviously showed it wasn’t supported properly on OS 7. We later got an update that supported OS 7 thankfully, and now a new one once again. In version 3.1.46, you can see check images and save multiple online IDs if you have more than one account. Also there’s bug fixes included in the application. Get the latest update from BlackBerry App World.

We should be getting OS 7.1 sometime soon as the end of the year is close to coming to an end. A good sign of a soon launch is the simulators available online. N4BB spotted that three device simulators for OS 7.1 are available on BlackBerry’s website. So if you want to take a sneak peek on what’s ahead in the new OS, give the simulator a go.

A week ago we saw what seems to be the last of OS 7 devices get officially announced by Research In Motion. The devices announced were the BlackBerry Curve 9380 and the BlackBerry Bold 9790. It looks like a consumer event is being held for the Bold 9790 in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 25th. Here’s RIM’s note on the event:
Be the first to own the latest combination of practicality & power, the BlackBerry Bold 9790 in Pacific Place, Jakarta, Indonesia, November 25th 2011. Be early, cause the first 1,000 buyer will get 50% off for a Bold 9790 purchase.
So if you want to take advantage of getting 50% off the Bold 9790 you want to make sure you make it to the event early. This of course is only for folks in the region.

The folks over at BlackBerry India managed to get MS-DOS running on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Definitely brought back lots of old memories here. Very impressive. Some demonstrations we see are commands inputted into the prompt, and the launch of a few games including Wolfenstein 3D, Prince of Persia (the classic edition), and Lion King. A Bluetooth keyboard was used of course as it’s needed to type in the command prompt. Check out the video for the full hands on.
Carrier News, Leaked Content »
Bell is expected to pick up the recently announced BlackBerry Bold 9790 on December 2nd. So far we’ve seen nothing but Canadian carriers picking this device up, which seems to be the trend lately anyway. A quick recap on the specs, the Bold 9790 is touchscreen with full QWERTY keyboard, has a 2.4 inch display, OS 7, 5MP camera with autofocus, NFC, and more. There’s no word on pricing that Bell will offer for the new device but details will surface soon as we get closer to the launch date.
