BlackBerry Desktop Software received a small update to version 6.1.0.38. According to BerryReview who spotted the update, the only real difference here is device support. In this new version you’ll find support for the BlackBerry Curve 9350 and Curve 9370. Feel free to download the update, although most of you won’t since there doesn’t seem to be enough of an incentive to.

Facebook for BlackBerry had a tiny update yesterday to version 2.0.0.58. No real big deal other than the fact it’s a maintenance release. The change log reads that it “includes general fixes to the infrastructure of the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones application.” So there you have it. Most of you should have been prompted to download it in BlackBerry App World but in case you didn’t, click the link below.

Update: It’s a weird scenerio. When clicking the webstore link it shows up invalid, but on mobile devices it’ll open up in App World now. So you can still go about downloading it since that’s what counts. Point your BlackBerry Browser to appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/58652 or click here.
Yesterday a new application called BeepUs showed up free in BlackBerry App World. It provided free push to talk services for BBM. Basically all your BBM friends who also downloaded the application would show up in BeepUs where you can choose to open a session up to chirp them. Now it looks like the app has been removed from BlackBerry App World for who knows what reason. Perhaps there’s a bug discovered with the app and needs to be resolved to make it back in App World.
Have you downloaded BeepUs?

The “Thank You Gifts” or “Compliments of BlackBerry” applications just got more additions today. It looks like The Sims 3 and SimCity Deluxe are now both free under the category. It might not show up under the “Thank You Gift” category yet, but both games are marked free to download as of now. Click the links below to grab them both!

Another BlackBerry Bold 9900 OS has launched, this time 7.0.0.540. If you’re a 9900 owner, you’re probably overwhelmed with all the OS updates coming out rapidly in both the leaked and official departments. We saw this same version leak out a few days ago too. This one comes from Turkcell officially and hopefully is better than what we already have. You can go ahead and download it officially from Turkcell using the link below.

BlackBerry Messenger got a nice update today to version 6.1. Although it’s a beta, you should be quite excited to see what’s in store. This almost feels as exciting as v5.0 launching or maybe even more. In this beta update we see new features including animated avatars, 12 new emoticons, and more! Here’s some highlights from the change log:
- Animated avatars* – Now you can access a selection of animated GIFs that come alive when you hover over the avatar. Three animated avatars are available as part of the beta as a sneak peak (including a ‘smile’, ‘laughter’ and ‘in love’) – with a greater selection to come at launch. You can access avatars when changing your display picture within the Avatars folder and can source your own animated GIFs
- 12 new emoticons – Add to the range of expressions available to enhance your conversations with12 new emoticons to choose from.
- Personal Message size increased to 160 characters – We’ve doubled the size of the personal message space to 160 characters. The previous limit was 80 characters.
- Colored chat bubbles – Customize the color of chat bubbles with 10 colors to choose from. You can pre-assign these colors to your contacts by simply going into your BBM contacts’ profile and selecting the desired contact chat color from the palette.
- Camera / Avatar Integration – Now you can update your BBM avatar right from the BlackBerry camera app by selecting “Set as BBM Display Picture” from the menu options.

- Invisbile- No one can see you and no BBM information is shared.
- Contacts- All your BBM contacts can see you.
- Public- ALL other BBM users can see you.
It’s really cool to be able to open your BlackBerry messenger up to anyone who has a BlackBerry. It’s kind of like having Pinwall or being part of any one of the many pin sharing sites, but the benefits to this you don’t have to keep updating your pin, or searching through pages and pages of contacts. You can easily open Wikitude, and see who is in your area, and increase BBM contacts that way.
Of course those who are afraid of sharing information with strangers, can keep it to invisible so no one can see them in the Wikitude application. Or you can set it up to where only your BBM contacts can see you.
So download Wikitude and hold up your device and explore your area with BBM integration. Now the question remains how will you set up your privacy settings? Will you choose to be seen or not to be seen?

iSpeech has launched a new application called Dictation which allows you to speak into your BlackBerry and convert it to text. Vlingo offers similar services for almost every screen that has a text field and now there’s an alternative from iSpeech. I’m not too big on these voice to text apps, but since the world is going bananas over Siri, I figure it’s a good idea for voice to text apps to make their presence on BlackBerry. iSpeech dictation is free to download from BlackBerry App World. It looks like there’s an in app purchase option to get the Pro version as well.

So recently after wiping my handheld and downloading everything from scratch I noticed the app is no where to be found, and it looks like it has been removed. I understand it can be a little annoying but just like the farting apps it is still very funny.
