duke nukem 3d

A while back we saw Doom go official on the BlackBerry PlayBook as a free shareware game.  Now we see Duke Nukem 3D launch which is a bit similar to Doom only newer and better.  The hit game was popular in the 90’s as its system requirements were low, and this is as 3D as you could get back then.  Either way it’s awesome to have on a touchscreen tablet now.  You can grab Duke Nukem 3D from BlackBerry App World for only $2.99.

BlackBerry App World might be due for another update soon.  It won’t be a major overhaul like 3.0, but 3.1 is supposed to offer some features you may or may not of been waiting for.  According to CrackBerry, version 3.1 should be getting WiFi support, so you won’t need that active data connection on.  The other feature ties in to what we already see with the PocketBerry Store powered by MobiHand- gifting applications.  The new update will you purchase applications and send them as a gift to others.  We should be seeing BlackBerry App World v3.1 rolling out in Beta Zone if all rumors are true.

patternlock 1patternlock 2

PatternLock for BlackBerry has updated to version 2.1 adding support for OS 7 devices at last.  PatternLock is a very popular locking app where you have to set a pattern to draw on a grid to unlock.  We’ve seen apps like this on Androids and of course the BlackBerry gets it too.  It should be real fun on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 since you can draw right on the touchscreen.  Grab it at App World using the link below.

torch 9850 9860 otterboxes

It looks like all three grades of the OtterBox editions are now available for the BlackBerry Torch 9850 and 9860.  By now you know how the different editions work.  The Defender is the ultimate case and most durable.  The Commuter gives you something in between, while the Impact series gives you a heavy duty silicon cover adding very little bulk to the device.  Just got your Torch? Definitely check out OtterBox for your best protection.

So it looks like the BlackBerry Curve 9380 and BlackBerry Bold 9790 are RIM’s last OS 7 devices they will be releasing.  We’ve seen one too many over the last few months that by now you should definitely find the Berry customized to your needs.  So what’s next? BBX it is!  BBX is the next operating system RIM will be launching on BlackBerry smartphones.  Formerly known as QNX which is currently what BlackBerry PlayBook OS consists of,  BBX will be the single OS to be on all platforms.  It’s nice to see RIM go the same direction Apple and Android went with their tablets and devices keeping it all under the same platform.

There’s one too many benefits with BBX OS and we can’t wait to get one of these devices on hand already.

May the sales begin, once again.  The BlackBerry PlayBook is getting more sales this week at Walmart in Canada.  For $198, you can pick up the 16GB, $298 for the 32GB anad $398 for the 64GB.  That’s better than any sale we’ve seen on the BlackBerry tablet so far.  The sale is from November 16th-22nd so grab one while the sale’s out!

RIM introduced the BlackBerry Bold 9790 in Indonesia yesterday and held an event where apparently some folks got to snag a device for themselves.  Here’s an unboxing clip of the Bold 9790 showing what’s included and giving you a nice little overview of the device itself.  Any former/current 9700 owners craving this one or is the Bold 9900 the way to go?
