apple app storeresearch in motion logo blue

It’s no secret that Research In Motion is a bit behind schedule when it comes to releasing a mobile device that competes with other smartphones out there.  BlackBerry 10 devices are delayed due to the manufacturing of LTE chips which are set to be ready by mid-2012.  A very sad but true statistic has come to surface today.  Apple’s App Store is worth more money than all of Research In Motion.  That’s one individual item belonging to Apple worth more that RIM. RIM’s stock has reached down to $13.44 per share and has a total company value of $7.04 billion.  This is based on last week’s stocks.

Apple’s App Store is worth $7.08 billion which climbs a bit right on top of Research In Motion.  The App Store only accounts for 2% of Apple’s value too.

BBM Music has an update available in BlackBerry Beta Zone today.  Unfortunately this one’s only for Canada residents but perhaps we’ll get it in the US soon.  As for the change log, there’s a few goodies here including payment enhancements, search improvements, and usability improvements.  Here’s the full change log of version 1.1:

Payment Enhancements

  • Ability to Request a Gift – Users can ask their BBM Contacts for a subscription to BBM Music.
  • Added Notifications – Splat notifications to continue free trials and prior to first subscription charge
  • Integration with BBM ‘Show what I’m listening to’ – Playing songs in BBM Music will update BBM Status if ‘Show what I’m listening to’ is selected within BBM (Requires BBM 6.1)

Since the announcement of the acquisition of T-Mobile from AT&T, it’s been nothing but issues for the company to get settled.  The news is starting to roll out now, but it looks like AT&T has pulled out from the buyout now, more or so a mutual agreement with Deutsche Telekom as stated in a memo sent out to T-Mobile employees.  Here’s the full memo:

Today AT&T and Deutsche Telekom announced they have mutually decided to terminate their agreement for AT&T to acquire T-Mobile USA. This announcement effectively ends the acquisition process launched March 20, including the regulatory approvals process with the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission. Additionally, with the termination of the agreement, T-Mobile will receive certain spectrum licenses and a 3G roaming agreement from AT&T, and AT&T will pay $3B to our parent company, Deutsche Telekom.

cwade still exploit pb

There was speculations that maybe the latest BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 beta update would block out the Dingleberry root, but it looks like it does not according to Chris Wade who has confirmed on Twitter that it still is working!  His tweet reads “RIM didn’t patch my dhcp exploit in 6149 so you can jailbreak by jailbreaking then upgrading.  All firmwares are still jailbreakable.

evernote 3-4-1evernote 3-4-2

Evernote for BlackBerry smartphones updated a couple of days ago with a few changes to it.  When version 3.0 launched, we saw a bit of a user interface change, and now the home screen of the app has improved again.  We also get the option to flip through notebooks on the home screen allowing you to navigate through them fast paced.  Appending mode has been improved where you can see content of a note below where you are typing which makes referencing easier.  Finally, the application runs faster as well allowing for faster navigation and typing within the app.  The update is available in BlackBerry App World to download.

When OS 7.1.0.163 officially released by Sprint for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and BlackBerry Torch 9850 last week, there were no desktop downloads available as it was only being pushed over the air to devices.  So if you had a CDMA Torch or Bold and wanted the OS, you couldn’t get it installed- until now!  Over the weekend I managed to download OS 7.right off the BlackBerry website to put it on my Verizon Bold 9930.  So feel free to pick it up for the Bold or Torch.  Keep in mind this is for CDMA users only!

playbook bestbuy

Well as of the weekend, we discovered that the BlackBerry PlayBook has gone on sale once again for $199.  The confirmed retail locations were Staples (which sold out in our region) and Best Buy who had some quantities in stock.  It was interesting to see that there were no tablets left last week in either store and the prices had gone back up.  There’s no telling how long this sale will go on for, so it’s obviously best to get it sooner than later.  Click the links below to check out the sale in each store.  If you discover the sale in any other shops, let us know!

film 1film 2

Film is an application for the BlackBerry PlayBook that reminds me of IMDB on Android and iOS.  Maybe that’s the direction it’s trying to go.  With Film, you can check out featured films, what’s in theaters, movies coming up, the newest movies, or just a manual search.  Watching movie trailers is a click away and works instantly.  It doesn’t reroute to your browser for YouTube or any of that, but has a built-in media player instead.  It’s 99 cents to buy but definitely worth it for those who enthuse over movies.
