handster android apps on playbook

Last week we let you know about Handster, a third party Android application store submitting applications to BlackBerry App World for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  Well it looks like the applications are starting to arrive as I notice two pages worth of apps so far now- all free to download.  It’s funny to see that the application screenshots are straight from Android and not ones taken from the PlayBook!  Any way, click the link below and let us know if you find anything worth while in the collection.

rim co ceos

Just a buck! RIM had their quarterly earnings call yesterday where things didn’t seem too well, but the company suggested a big year would be ahead.  Not the first time we hear it, but in best hopes this time it’s accurate with BlackBerry 10 in route and the existing BlackBerry 7 devices available now.  The RIM co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have announced they will be lowering their annual salaries to $1 per year.

So we won’t be expecting them to step down as CEOs as they continue to try harder on gaining market share once again.

Thanks Bogizo for the tip!

BlackBerry App World has officially updated last night to version 3.1.0.56. For a few weeks we’ve been beta testing v3.1 from BlackBerry Beta Zone. The official didn’t take long to release which is great for those who were long waiting. Be patient in waiting for the download to prompt in App World or head over to the BlackBerry App World mobile site to download.

Along with the BlackBerry Bold 9930, the BlackBerry Torch 9850 is also joining in on OS 7.1.  Both of these OS builds are being pushed over the air through Wireless Update on BlackBerry so you won’t be able to do a desktop download just yet.  The update is for Sprint devices only, but of course once that desktop download goes live you’ll be able to install on other CDMA Berrys as well.  As for those who are on Sprint Torches and Bolds, head over to Wireless Update and download away!

BlackBerry PlayBook got an OS update tonight to 2.0.0.6149. This is only for the developer beta of course. Included in this update is some language editions and security add ons. Not sure if it blocks out the Dingleberry root but you can go ahead to download and let us know if it works!

There’s no real surprise here as we expected RIM to delay their future products some more. Look at the BlackBerry PlayBook for instance- enough said. RIM confirmed today in the conference call that they will be delaying BlackBerry 10 smartphones to late 2012, rather that first quarter as promised earlier this year.
So what’s the delay blamed on? LTE. RIM says that the LTE devices with OS 10 are being delayed and won’t be available until the middle of 2012. Optimistically we’re expecting the devices in the second half.

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 hasn’t been getting much love in the OS department. For months we’ve been seeing the GSM 9900 getting all the OS updates both officially and leaked. Now we have Sprint pushing out OS 7.1 to BlackBerry Bold 9930 users over the air. The desktop download isn’t available yet but I’m sure we’ll see it come soon enough. That way some of you Verizon users can get in on it! Tune into wireless updates and keep refreshing for the update.
