T-Mobile offering Valentine’s Day free phone special including the Bold 9900 & Curve 9360

An awesome sale is headed to T-Mobile! TmoNews grabbed a screenshot showing that T-Mobile has a special offer coming on February 11th where new and current customers can get some popular smartphones free. While browsing through the devices pictured, I noticed the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 are both listed. So if you were looking for that upgrade soon, it might be worth waiting until February 11th, the Bold 9900 obviously being the better choice.

All other SFR points of sale are expected to have the attractive new model from mid-February 2012. As a limited time launch promotion from SFR, the Pure White model will be available for €49,90* with an Edition Spéciale Carré Absolu International service plan. The new model will also be available to SFR Business Team** customers.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the thinnest BlackBerry® smartphone yet at only 10.5mm and the first to offer the perfect union of a high performance full QWERTZ keyboard with a highly responsive touch display integrated within the iconic BlackBerry Bold design. The new handset features powerful specifications including 8 GB of on-board memory, expandable up to 40 GB and a 5.0 MP camera that supports HD video recording. The handset comes pre-loaded with the Wikitude World Browser to take advantage of augmented reality capabilities, as well as additional premium personal and productivity apps out of the box. BlackBerry Bold 9650 OS 6.0.0.719 officially released by Verizon

Verizon recently rolled out a new update for the BlackBerry Bold 9650. Of course no OS 7 love since it is an older BlackBerry device. This update is OS 6.0.0.719, and hopefully decent for those not satisfied with the current OS on their Bold 9650. You can download it officially from Verizon’s website.

T-Mobile rolling out OS 7.1.0.205 for the BlackBerry Bold 9900

It looks like T-Mobile is officially rolling out OS 7.1.0.205 for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 now. Previously we saw leaks for 7.1.0.205 and 7.1.0.190 and now the .205 got the official release. This includes Mobile Hotspot and yes WiFi calling at at last, which is a key feature to T-Mobile smartphones and was missing since the device launched. For now it looks to be an over the air update from your smartphone but it should show up on T-Mobile’s website soon.

AT&T launching new data plans on January 22nd

If you thought AT&T’s previous limited data plans were bad, wait until you see these bad boys. AT&T has upped its prices for all its data plans, giving you a bit more, but charging you for it as well. Here’s the new plans for smartphones:

AT&T Data Plus 300MB: $20 for 300MB
AT&T Data Pro 3GB: $30 for 3GB
AT&T Data Pro 5GB: $50 for 5GB, with mobile hotspot / tethering

Yikes! Really doesn’t sound appealing for new customers at all. As for tablets (which doesn’t affect you BlackBerry users yet), here are the new plans:

AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

Verizon also offers limited data plans, but who knows if they have plans on upping their prices as well. As a new customer, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to switch to AT&T this point. These new data plans from AT&T are launching January 22nd.

Confirmed: T-Mobile BlackBerry 9810 Is Being Placed on the End Of Life List

I guess this means goodbye to the T-Mobile BlackBerry Torch 9810. T-Mobile has decided to pull the device after only being on the market for roughly 8 weeks. My curiosity had gotten the best of me so I went down to my local T-mobile store to find out what happened. Of course after being in the store for a few minutes I began to draw a conclusion on why the device was placed as EOL.

The cost of the BlackBerry Torch 9810 with a contract was 300$. That is more than most of the other smartphones that T-Mobile carries, and the same price of the very popular BlackBerry Bold 9900. After watching the employees in the store sell for a few minutes I noticed almost every single phone that was being recommended was an android device (most of these interactions were customers not knowing what phone to purchase and the sales representatives recommendation was an android device almost every time). With these factors it’s no wonder why the device is being EOL’ed at such a short self life.

Rogers offering Visual Voicemail to BlackBerry customers in February

Carriers in the United States are very much familiar with Visual Voicemail. Several carriers support the feature, while some do not. In Canada, the very popular Rogers Wireless will start offering Visual Voicemail Plus starting next month (February) for BlackBerry users, except the Bold 9700 and Torch 9800. To access, it will be available in an application called Visual Voicemail Plus, which I’m guessing is going to get pushed to BlackBerry smartphones with a home screen link or may require a manual download.

Visual voicemail for Rogers customers is expected to cost the same as non-visual voicemail is currently. Once again, we’ll be expecting to see it in February.

BlackBerry 7.1 Update

BlackBerry 7.1 will soon be available for the BlackBerry Bold 9930 smartphone and the BlackBerry Torch 9850 smartphone. OS 7.1 coming soon to Verizon BlackBerry Bold 9930 & Torch 9850

According to some Verizon docs, OS 7.1 is coming soon to BlackBerry Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 users! Sprint already got the official update and Verizon will be getting the same. Device features:
-Device will no longer repeatedly indicate that new software has been installed.
-Device will no longer reset while connected to a charging source.
-Device displays the correct wireless service provider while making calls or sending text messages.

-Improvements in home screen responsiveness and reduced touch screen lockups.
-No longer experience delays in audio reception or unexpected call termination.
