BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing v3.0 goes official in the US, Canada & UK

RIM officially released BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing v3.0 today in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. For those unaware of this application, it’s designed to make joining and schedule conference calls easy. Key features include:

Join Now Button– The BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing app adds a button to calendar reminders on your BlackBerry smartphone that can dial you in to a call with one click. If the invite includes multiple dial-in numbers for different locations, the app can choose the most appropriate one for you (within Canada, the US and the UK only).

Reconnect – Reconnect with one click if you’re disconnected or need to drop off a conference call.

Easy Conference Scheduling – You can schedule a conference call complete with conference bridge details directly from the BlackBerry Calendar in an easy two-step process. To enable this capability, you can set your conference call profile once in the BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing app, including dial-in numbers and access codes, and then simply add the profile as part of the calendar invitation. (The moderator code is kept hidden from participants in the calendar invitation.) Many of the leading audio conferencing systems are supported.

Optimal Conference Call Number Selection – If multiple dial-in numbers are provided to accommodate participants in different regions, the application can automatically choose an optimal number to use, such as using the local number if you’re within the local calling area rather than a toll-free number; or a toll-free number if the dial-in number would otherwise be long distance. You can also select or modify a specific dial-in number manually.

Convert an email to a meeting invite – Help put an end to long email threads by scheduling a conference call with email participants with just a few clicks. The sender and recipients of the email are included as meeting attendees, the email subject becomes your meeting subject and part of the email message is copied into your invite automatically. Just add your conference call details from a stored profile, click send and you’re set.

Get on Pingr back on your BlackBerry!

We have written about PINGR disappearing from BlackBerry App World last November; and it looked like RIM had removed the app. Assuming that this app was removed for how annoying it could be, I was devastated, especially since I had paid $0.99 for the app that I could no longer use.

On Twitter earlier this morning I saw a tweet from @kyleizwany had posted how to get PINGR on your BlackBerry, and instructions for using PINGR since you can’t connect it to BBM! With PINGR you can send lots of pings to your BBM contacts. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to be annoying or get in touch with a contact.

Check out how to use the app:

Launch the PINGR!!! application
Then its time to change the setting.
PING gap (ms) :- You can just leave it as 500
Number of PINGs :- Its up to you 10 or 50 mybe?
Once all setting is done. Hit the Send PING!!! button and quickly return to BBM and choose the contact you wish to Ping!!!

BlackBerry Curve 9320 simulator available online for download

Usually when a new BlackBerry smartphone is close to launching, we see a simulator pop up on the official BlackBerry website. We have the same scenario here as the new and unreleased BlackBerry Curve 9320 has a simulator online to download. For those who decide to download, it’s a bit funny of an installation. You have to download the installer first, then you’ll be rerouted back to your browser for the download, and lastly you’ll have the installer app pop up where you click next-next a bit until it completes. Visual C++ 2008 is required where you’ll be prompted to download it in the middle of the installation if necessary. Any way, this is just a OS simulator, so don’t expect to get that virtual hands-on with the device you might be looking for.

Native BlackBerry Music Store goes live in App World

For new BlackBerry devices, Music Store comes pre-installed. Now for older devices with OS 6 or even OS 5, there is no native music solution. You could just download the 7Digital Music Store which is pretty much the same thing but it’s not RIM’s native music store app. Any way, RIM has launched Music Store in BlackBerry App World for many devices- not only OS 7. Also, good stuff seeing it’s back to 7Digital and not Amazon MP3. This way the PlayBook and smartphones share the same source for music rather than two different libraries and purchases.

Get slow walkers out of your way with Bicycle Bell for BlackBerry PlayBook

Browsing through AppWorld on my BlackBerry PlayBook, I came across Bicycle Bell. Curious I checked out it. To be honest I really like the description the developer posted about the application which reads:

“Tired of slow walkers? Part a sea of human traffic with this handy Bicycle Bell! If you’re in a hurry, whip this out and give it a ring. It’s free! Download yours today!”

I downloaded it to check it out, and too my surprise I got a good laugh out of the app. I wasn’t sure what kind of bell sound it would make, however, when opening up the app it was the traditional bicycle bell sound and it was very loud. For Free I really can’t complain. I tried it out in my local mall, and I had a lot of people actually stop and move to the side to see what the noise was (and I assume it was also to see if someone was really riding a bike inside the mall).
