It looks liek Poynt has went through a nice update today as BerryReview reports. Don’t get too excited expecting a huge face lift, but it is significantly different. Here are the changes:
- Navigation (as opposed to map only) from current location to destination using BlackBerry Maps
- Date/time stamps for fuel prices
- Ability to turn weather on/off
- New interface (released for non-touchscreen devices with v1.5.2.36) now available for Storm/Storm2 (according to another forum post)

Sure there are many apps out there that tell you what’s around you such as Buzzd, and perhaps Google Maps. Urbanspoon is a unique app in helping you decide where to eat. As the app had its launch with the iPhone, BlackBerry was surely to be next. As described on their website, Urbanspoon is sort of like a “restaurant slot machine.” Pushing the space bar, or shaking your BlackBerry (Storm only eligible for shaking) will allow the app to pick a good restaurant for you nearby. There’s customizable features such as cuisine specifications and price that appeal to you. Don’t like the results? Keep spinning til you get what you like.
If you don’t want to use the randomized function you can go ahead and browse restaurants manually that are all around you to select exactly what is desired by your tummy.

Google never seems to disappoint with all their new features they add in each update for their Google Maps BlackBerry application. Version 3.2 has just launched overnight bringing layer features to maps. So where’s the real conveniences here? Layers make it really easy to view different types of info on your map. For example, if your traveling somewhere or site seeing, you can turn on the Wikipedia layer which will tell you interesting facts and places near by right on the map. Then you can easily route to the spot right through the same application. Google Latitude is still an additional layer which you can turn on and off to track friends near by.
