And I thought I was crazy this whole time.  Bla1ze from CrackBerry talks about his YouTube video playback quality increased over the past few days.  This is something I noticed late last week as I was streaming a YouTube video over 3G and realized the quality wasn’t so blocky and laggy anymore.  So it is possible that quality has generally increased and developers have optimized performance for YouTube video playback via BlackBerry.  Have any of you seen a difference in quality?

Here’s a funny commercial we saw a little over a week ago and finally found it on YouTube.  It’s for a special promotion that McDonald’s is putting out right now for its Fllet-O-Fish sandwiches.  In the commercial the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 gets celebrated and pushed in your face the whole time.  It is made clear which BlackBerry it is, and the logo is very visible.  Other than that, don’t forget to catch McDonald’s special promo on their fish sandwiches!

We all know how amazingly easy it is to read emails on our BlackBerry smartphones. It’s also no secret that other mobile devices used to read email have become incredibly popular, particularly among college students. Some of these devices include Android, iPhone, and yes the BlackBerry.  Earlier today as I found an official email from Rutgers University (the college I go to) talking about mobile email.

Way to go green Fandango!  It looks like the company is going on a new strategy to get paperless with its ticketing system.  Currently they are going through testing stages of barcodes (2D) as seen above in the picture within movie theaters rather than the traditional paper tickets.  So how would this work? You get an email notification or log in to the website via mobile where the ticket checker person (whatever they’re called) would scan it off as you enter instead of having to tear up tickets for hours at a time with a half hour lunch break.  Hit the jump to check out movie theaters currently participating in this Fandango Digital Barcode System.

Based on the recent OS updates out there (OS 5.0 and up) and Bla1ze’s speculation on the matter, the mute button no longer puts the BlackBerry in standby when pressing it down for a few seconds.  Will standby forever be missed? I don’t think so.  I’m another one of those people who never understood its true purpose.  Although I did see people use standby a lot instead of traditionally locking it, but for me it didn’t make any sense.  So goodbye to standby mode.  I’m proud of RIM for taking out the unnecessary feature.

We all just know Research In Motion (RIM) for the BlackBerry, but some don’t know much about their pasts, and what their old services consisted of.  These may not seem so much as secrets, I’d like to look at them as information about RIM that no one knows really.  I found some of these to be interesting, especially the ones showing how far RIM goes back with their business and how little of an operation they used to be once upon a time.  Hit the jump to check out the full list of secrets.

It’s a very far fetched idea if you ask me, but out of curiosity we wanted to know how many would like to see some sort of BlackBerry applications or utilities on the Apple iPad which is expected to roll out sometime this month but is now announced to be April 3rd (boo hoo).  Last night during the Oscars, an Apple iPad commercial aired, showing off all its ins and outs.  I’m sure some (or many) of you did enjoy the commercial and would still consider purchasing one, no matter how die-hard BlackBerry you are.  So what kind of applications could be on the iPad for BlackBerry?  Perhaps another version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager allowing you to sync wirelessly, or even through data cable.  How about an emulator?  Redfly has their Mobile Companion which does that now, but wouldn’t it be interesting to see on a tablet too?  We want to know what YOU think.  If you’re browsing via mobile, get on a computer and cast your vote or even leave a comment letting us know what you want to see happen.

It looks like another forward message is floating around today, only this time it’s about Facebook.  So the message says “If you know anyone that has facebook on blackberry tell them not 2 open an email saying password confirmation from facebook management, it has over 100 viruses, pass msg on.”  I checked out Twitter too, and it looks like this is getting retweeted quite frequently over the past hour. Have any of you received any emails from an alleged Facebook Management or is this more BBM spam?

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.  It’s amazing to see how far we’ve gone with BlackBerry themes.  Options are endless and there’s just so many places to grab both freebies and premium ones.  Today we decided to put what we like and personally use when it comes to themes. Here’s a quick roundup of what the PocketBerry staff favors when it comes to BlackBerry themes.

I don’t know about all of you but I received some annoying BlackBerry Messenger spam, far more annoying than all the other Haiti and BBM 6.0 ones.  The latest one is titled “New BBM Codes and tricks enjoy!!!”  Then you’ll see the hyper link followed after is a Comcast homepage.  So what does it do? It will really annoy you so try it at your own risk.  Upon opening the link, it’ll give you consistent pop-up messages like “hello,” “how are you,” “insert your name” (you can really type your name in), and so much more.  At the end you’ll get the same screen as seen above, so sorry for the spoiler.  If you’d like to try it click here or point your BlackBerry Browser to home.comcast.net/~wolfand/. Feel free to try it on a PC too, but I don’t recommend it anywhere!
