From the early builds of BlackBerry 10 – as far back as the Z10 launch rather, the first ported application many of us went to was Instagram.  On the Z10 it looked pretty good and a lot of the functions seems to work perfectly fine.  Over time we saw video recording finally work without crashes and even all updates for Android worked ok as BB10 continued to keep a pretty tip top Android Player in the OS.

BlackBerry Passport – been using it since launch back in September.  Maybe you have to, or maybe you’ve picked one up this break with the $200 off sale, or limited edition red (really thought about picking one up, but black will do for now).  As i did with the BlackBerry Z30, some of  my top picks for Android applications this year on the Passport.  Some of which are just better on a screen such as the Passport – and you’ll see why in some of the screenshots below or trying them out for yourself.

z30

It’s been a while since I have been on the blog but I am slowly coming back to try to post when I can and become more involved with that.  I figured I would kick things off with some apps I like on my Z30, specifically from Android.  Ever since the early leaks of BlackBerry OS 10.2.1, many of us have been enjoying the improved Android application capability.  This goes well beyond the ability to sideload through a PC, but directly on the device instead.  Downloading applications became much easier through third party mobile application stores such as Amazon and 1Mobile Store or even Aptoid.  How about Snap which offered a full third party solution for Google Play?  That’s probably my most frequently used marketplace when it comes to downloading Android apps.  So now that we have Jellybean runtime, and awesome ease of access of applications, here’s a quick roundup of my favorite Android applications on my BlackBerry Z30.

Just a friendly reminder to remember check BlackBerry World for new application updates after updating to OS 10.1. After I updated to OS 10.1 I checked out a few features. Then I immediately went to BlackBerry World and checked for any updates for apps, and I was welcomed by over a dozen new application updates. So like I mentioned earlier, just a friendly reminder to update all your apps to their latest versions to enjoy a smooth experience on  your newly updated BlackBerry Z10.

Usually we don’t rant on a regular basis, but every now and then we notice coolness and like to share with everyone else.  One huge complaint on the BlackBerry Q10 is gaming – says who? The aspect ratios just don’t seem to fit very well like the BlackBerry Z10, which of course limits what kind of games can be launched.  After making the switch (maybe temporary depending how this goes) to the BlackBerry Q10 earlier, I noticed that Gameloft had released a version of The Amazing Spiderman for it as well.  We had previously let you know when it was made available for BlackBerry 10 a couple months back, but it was never visited on the Q before. Obviously I had to try it out – especially since I made the purchase on the Z already!

This thread was originally posted earlier today on our BBM Channel, but it very well should be up here too since it is an interesting topic. As BlackBerry users, storage was never really an issue with legacy devices as applications were small in size and large media would be loaded to the designated memory card.

Did you go to BlackBerry Live this year? What did you think? Was it what you expected? What did you experience? BlackBerry did an excellent job this year at BlackBerry Live, and they kept it moving. The energy was really high at BlackBerry Live, and the only way you weren’t feeling anything is if you flat lined from all the excitement. From all over the world BlackBerry fanatics, elites, consumers, students, business users, owners, vendors, and even the skeptics showed up to see what BlackBerry was up to! (more…)

bb entrepreneur As we attended BlackBerry Jam 2013 this past week, we had the opportunity to attend the keynote live.  The introduction of the keynote was rather entertaining and comical as it included a funny 6 minute clip with BlackBerry “judges” including Alec Saunders, Christopher Smith and Marty Mallick.  It takes you through developers approaching the judges pitching “good ideas” for applications.  You’ll have to watch it for yourselves and get a good laugh out of it! Another great marketing piece for BlackBerry developers.  Hit the jump for the full video.

With the recent announcement of BlackBerry going cross platform has sent a shockwave throughout BlackBerry Nation. Some are for this new idea, while others are against it, and many others just don’t know what to think ; and this is only what I have encountered at BlackBerry Live. I haven’t gotten to the tweets, or the BBM’s or text or even Facebook notifications from friends, family, and curious consumers asking me if the news is true and why. I must say I was a little skeptical at first, and I spent a lot of Tuesday thinking about the pros and cons and both sides. After all  was said and done I think I have put some sense to the shocking news.

During the BlackBerry Live Keynote yesterday, BlackBerry CEO demonstrated BB10 in the automotive industry – in the specific use case, it was a Bentley.  We got to see a cool demonstration of BBM Video in the car, where video only works when parked.  Once the car moves, it will only be audio.  Very similar to other cars with multimedia systems such as DVD Players; once the car starts moving it switches to audio only.  Any way, we paid the Bentley a visit yesterday in the Solutions Showcase where many vendors were exhibited (stay tuned later as we go around visiting everyone and sharing our findings).  Anyway, hit the jump below to check out the full gallery of the Bentley equipped with BlackBerry 10.  We couldn’t get a live demo on it just yet – but hopefully the kind folks are open to the idea tonight where we’ll definitely share some feed with you guys.
