bb10 and timeshift

Starting today, users in North America will be getting OS 10.1 officially available to download over the air.  However, this will go through the end of the week, which is probably targeted more towards US carriers whom are always last at these updates.  BlackBerry CEO Thorsten makes mention of Skype for 10.1.  See below for full highlights on BlackBerry 10.1:

BlackBerry Hub manages all of your conversations

BlackBerry Hub helps you stay organized, in control and on top of all of your conversations, and with BlackBerry 10.1, it just keeps getting better. You can now view emails that are attached to another email, get contact suggestions when you start addressing a message, and send PIN to PIN messages for direct communication between BlackBerry smartphones.

A new OS update has been released today for AT&T BlackBerry Z10′s.  This one is 10.0.10.116 from the AT&T side, but actual OS is 10.0.10.822.  The update brings improved battery life and better support for third party applications.  The update is small in size – only 44MB so it shouldn’t take long to download and install.  Let us know your thoughts post upgrading if any of the above (or other stuff) is a noticeable change!

Thanks shiggity and everyone else for sending this in!

At last, AT&T customers who currently hold the BlackBerry Z10 can enjoy an awesome OS update today.  This one’s higher than the usual at 10.0.10.88.  Also, the update is 732MB, not the average incremental update we’d expect with all other carriers pushing out 150MB at a time or so.  I just got around to update this moments ago, and the update didn’t take long to complete, other than the download for a half hour, but the device seems a bit more responsive when switching between applications and my Calendar app certainly does not crash anymore which is always nice.  Oh yea, the AT&T applications that have been preloaded as well unfortunately..

To grab this update, just head over to Software Updates in options and you’ll be on your way! You’ll need to stay plugged in and a solid WiFi connection.

We just got the word from BlackBerry that the Z10 just updated to OS 10.0.10.85.  After almost a month of launch, we’re seeing this update addressing some issues and concerns that may have been encountered with those out there fortunate enough to have the device on hand.  Also, it’s good to see this happen before US launch, which of course indicates better stability (hopefully).  The changes included:

  • Improvements to Third Party Apps, Phone, Calendar & Contacts
  • Camera, Browser & Media Improvements
  • Better Battery Life

Additional information can be found at the Inside BlackBerry Blog post on this update.  To get this update, navigate to Settings> Software Updates> Check for Updates.  Let us know how your OS upgrade goes, if your carrier has it rolled out yet (not everyone has it yet)

We have heard rumors after rumors of possible launch dates for the 2.1 OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook, and finally it has arrived. RIM has launched the official 2.1 OS for the BlackBerry PlayBook. This OS update is packed with a lot of goodies, some including:

  • Updated BlackBerry Bridge: Now you can view, respond and compose new SMS messages on their BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet when connected to a BlackBerry smartphone over Bluetooth®. You’ll also enjoy increased performance and speed of other BlackBerry Bridge functions as well. So you can do more, more efficiently.
  •  Email and PIM Enhancements: You’ve asked for it and we’ve delivered portrait support for email, calendar and contacts, giving you the option to use your tablet in either orientation to message. This will definitely come in handy for those of you who enjoy thumb typing in portrait mode.
  •  Improved Android Application Support: Includes Multi-Window Applications, Camera Support and In-App Payments. We all love a richer app experience, and with the improvements to the Android runtime, that’s just what you’ll get. Running the applications in separate windows allows you to multi-task between Android apps easier, and in-app payments will make it easier for you to enhance your app content.
There are many other features as well even on the enterprise side of things that have been included with this OS update. So if you haven’t done so already go update the OS on your BlackBerry PlayBook. Its very simple just head to your options and hit the update button! If you notice anything else with the new update  leave a comment below! Happy updating!
