AT&T’s Mystery Display in Retail Stores – Is the 9800 Underneath?

We tried getting an image from some AT&T buddies of ours, but it looks like AT&T employees have been told not to and been giving warnings as to what would happen if they did. Gizmodo posted up a picture yesterday which I came across now in pursuit of finding out who had an image of this big mystery display. So a mystery stand at the AT&T store, with a mystery AT&T and RIM event August 3rd. Is there any connection here? There is Dell’s Android device on the way, but it seems too much of a coincidence that RIM has their event and this mystery stand shows up at AT&T stores. I’ll go ahead and say yes this is the 9800. So for now, hype is being built up as they mystery stand remains, and no one is allowed to look and see what is inside. We are going to visit an AT&T store later today and try to take pictures of it ourselves but we’ll see how well that goes with AT&T employees and mall security.

T-Mobile stops BlackBerry Curve 8520 shipments – 9300 in September?

We got the word from several T-Mobile retail locations that the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is not on shelves right now. Whatever left over devices are hanging around can be sold, but T-Mobile is not sending any more in at all. Some employees have also told a new device is expected to come around September to make up for the 8520. Curve 9300 anyone? This isn’t huge news, but it’s a bit odd how the Fuchsia red Curve 8520 came out around the same time the white Bold 9700 did (not too long ago) and now it’s all been halted. I guess both Verizon and T-Mobile are getting rid of this device.

There’s no word on AT&T as they are hiding discreetly hopefully unveiling the 9800 Slider soon. Keep in mind they do also have a Curve 8520 on shelves but it seems to me the 8520 was not such a big hit with AT&T, but more with T-Mobile and Verizon. So what else is going to be halted soon? Will we see the Bold 9700 go away and have the 9780 take its place when OS 6 come out? Or will RIM impress us all by having OS 6 support the 9700? Back to the 8520, I guess this is it, and it will be an end of life device as well from T-Mobile.

Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 & Curve 8530 End of Life Devices in August ?

It’s a bit crazy seeing the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 go down just like that. When I think about it, I feel like it was too short lived of a device. Then I remember last week where we saw Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 OS 6 testing ceased. Was making it an end of life device a decision after the testing failures or was it going down any way?

Second in line is the BlackBerry Curve 8530. So what. We have a Curve 9300 which is pretty much the same device as the 8530. Everyone calls the Curve 9300 the 8500 series Curve with 3G. Well guess what folks – the Curve 8530 did have 3G for those who forgot already. Goodbye 8530! BlackBerry Curve2 (8530):

The Curve2 is end of life – Final Shipments August
Refer to the “Stock Check” tool in POS for on hand availability
Device will retire on 8/1, replacement coming in Q3/Q4

BlackBerry Storm2 (9550):

The Storm2 is end of life – Final Shipments August
Refer to the “Stock Check” tool in POS for on hand availability
Device will retire on 8/15, replacement coming in Q3/Q4

How heartwarming! So Q3/Q4 we’ll be seeing Storm 2 and Curve 8530 replacements. I am guessing this revamped Storm 2 (maybe 3) or Storm “Touch” we saw and of course the one and only 9300, but in CDMA of course.

Until we get the official word, this has to partially go down as a rumor, but I am willing to consider it “Carrier News” also and hopefully we’re not wrong on this one.

Rumor: BlackBerry Triton 4G Coming in December?

BlackBerry users everywhere are getting stomped on by Android device and iPhone users. Where’s the front face camera? When is a 4G Berry releasing? How about a revamped better OS to compete with what’s out today? By looking at RIM’s road map for the next few months into 2011, things are looking good so far. BlackBerry 6 (OS 6.0) which we hope is not delayed any further will be launching with the BlackBerry 9800 Slider and then for other devices as well.

That leaves us with 4G connectivity and a front face camera. According to analysts, a BlackBerry Triton 4G is set to release by the end of the year in December. So you already know it is a 4G, and yes will have a front and back facing camera (5MP to be exact). Is this an iPhone killer? Let’s hope so. If people don’t find the means to agree, we’ll just sleep better knowing we can hold it in any way without being forced to slap a case on it.

So RIM has been working on LTE devices, but carriers haven’t cooperated much in taking them on just yet. As Ronen suggests, Verizon did say they would bring LTE to one third of the United States by the end of the year. So who’s up for a 4G BlackBerry?

OS 6 Testing on Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 Ceased – Why?

So Verizon has halted all BlackBerry 6 testing on the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. There’s a few different possibilities here as to why this has happened. One which is the most obvious is the lack of memory the Storm 2 has. When I say “lack,” I mean not enough to support BlackBerry 6 (OS 6). If this is true, supported devices for OS 6 does not seem to be what we thought it would. Surely there’s many Storm 2 users out there, but there are a lot more Bold 9700 users. Seeing things like this as a 9700 owner makes you bite your nails a bit when wondering if OS 6 will support it or not.

The other day, we saw a new Storm with higher specs in a slide show image. We are not sure if this is indeed the Storm 3 or instead a revamped Storm 2. With the rumors floating of a Bold 9700 with 512MB instead of 256MB floating around, we’re not so surprised seeing a Storm 2 come about with higher memory and perhaps a few more other specs.

Personally, I’ll go ahead and blame it on the 256MB for now until we get more news as to what’s going on with Verizon’s device roadmap. For now we have to keep this low as a rumor until more official facts surface.

Rumor: Limited Data Plans coming to Verizon Wireless this month?

This has occurred on the AT&T network already, and a lot of folks aren’t happy. Data charts do show that average BlackBerry users don’t exceed the 200MB limit, and even if so, there’s always the 2GB. I think it’s more on the fact that there is some sort of limitation making you wonder why. Shortly after AT&T went ahead with the limited data plans, Verizon was rumored to do so as they mentioned on Bloomberg, but we had no set dates. According to Engadget, the time could be this month. So if any of you Verizon customers are eligible for upgrade, do so right away before these new data plans take control. We don’t know much about grandfathering policies with Verizon but that’s an idea up in the air for now.

Rumor: BlackBerry 9800 Slider Launching August 15th on AT&T?

It looks like the BlackBerry 9800 Slider is set to launch August 15 according to Mobile Beat who got the word from the BlackBerry Partners Fund. As we’ve known for quite some time now, AT&T is the set carrier to get it. If the rumor is true, I find it quite sad that no one knows the official name of 9800 whether it is a Bold or even Torch. One thing I know for sure is that RIM is teasing BlackBerry 6 on Twitter and even put out some official screenshots yesterday of multimedia experience with it.

BBM v5.0.1.32 Coming Soon to App World Test Center

Keep an eye out folks as users in other regions and BBOS have reported BlackBerry Messenger v5.0.1.32 coming to the Test Center in BlackBerry App World. Originally, we’ve had this same version in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, but it looks like it is to be released publicly in the Test Center soon. We’re not sure of any details at all as to when this could be happening but if you do end up seeing anything, shoot us an email with a screenshot or drop a line in the comments!

But keep in mind, since we don’t have much of anything other than the screenshot we saw of the version in App World, this remains to be a rumor right now until we see it actually available. So keep you eyes open for anything coming up new in the Test Center (specifically BBM)!

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm 3, Curve 3, & Tablet Coming to Verizon?

Before we get into the Storm 3 and Curve 3, the tablet specs leaked from Engadget don’t seem to match what RIM has been rumored so far to put out. A 10.1 inch tablet doesn’t seem right as we so far know its a 7 inch device. Things could change, and specs could be very well changed, so we’ll stay on the outside for this one. Verizon is also expected to get the BlackBerry Storm 3 we have been anxious to see as there has not been a single photo leak for this device. What we have been rumored so far on the Storm 3 is that it carries the same body as the Storm 2, with a more improved touch screen and a bunch of great specs under the hood. That leaves us now with a Curve 3. We assume it is a variation of the BlackBerry Curve 9300 but I really don’t see what the need for a CDMA version of it. More after the jump!

The Curve 8530 is solely for Verizon and Sprint being CDMA, rockin’ 3G already. The main objective of this Curve 9300 was to bring the 8500 back in a 3G form for carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T right? That’s how I see it at least. But don’t get too excited for the Storm 3 and Curve 3 as according to the rumors, these devices are “possible” to come out for the holidays. So what do you folks think of this? Is the tablet a BlackBerry one or perhaps an Android? Storm 3? Curve 3? Anyone, anyone?

Rumor: BlackBerry 9800 Slider Coming in White?

I believe it. According to Salomondrin, the BlackBerry 9800 Slider is currently being made in white as well. Black and white are very trendy colors these days with BlackBerry, as the Bold 9700 got both flavors and the Curve 8500 series got it in many. Who’s up for it? I never admired the white Berry, but after reviewing the white BlackBerry Bold 9700, I fell in love with it and became a full time user on it leaving my black one behind. I think I’ll do the same when the 9800 comes out as well. So there’s still no confirmation on this 9800 coming in white, but that’s what the confirmed rumor says for now. We’ll just have to wait for some more leakage or perhaps official images from RIM or AT&T.
