Yesterday TechRadar received some screenshots of what looks to be BlackBerry Messenger on Android OS. RIM had already declared that they had no plan on bringing BlackBerry Messenger to other platforms, and honestly would be quite silly if they did. They are also aware that the screenshots might be fake, but we definitely believe they are 100%. The screenshot seen comes from a BlackBerry Developer’s Blog post. I must say they did a decent job getting the screenshot onto the device, but I think the phonies need to try harder.

We already knew that QNX BlackBerry smartphones would be floating around BlackBerry DevCon this year for us to check out. Last year RIM’s big DevCon announcement was the BlackBerry PlayBook and this year should be QNX on BlackBerry smartphones. CrackBerry put out a rumored tip today suggesting that the QNX OS for BlackBerry smartphones is to be called BlackBerry X or BBX. OSX obviously wouldn’t work since Apple has that pretty locked down. RIM is expected to announce the new OS at DevCon, as I can’t imagine we’ll be seeing QNX smartphones out in the wild at the event without RIM officially announcing them. Let’s just hope the devices aren’t displayed behind glass like the PlayBook last year.

QNX is the latest and greatest OS from RIM as of now. It’s the operating system powering the BlackBerry PlayBook, and soon to be on smartphones in early 2012 according to RIM. The latest rumor on the street suggests that QNX will not be supporting push email in the future. Currently you have the PlayBook which uses Bridge to get email and other PIM apps so that remains push. But once OS 2.0 for PlayBook launches, we’re expecting to see push email gone if this rumor is true. Furthermore, QNX smartphones in 2012 won’t have it either then. And there goes RIM’s biggest feature which makes itself standout next to iOS and Android. Let’s just hope this fades out and RIM finds a solution quick for BIS users.

Leaked Content, Rumors »
The guys over at MaxPDA came up with a new leaked image which does nothing but raise questioning. You got to love leaked photos where they’re low budget quality which calls for further conspiracy. The suspected situation here is that this is a QNX BlackBerry device, but the screen is pretty unclear to determine that. What we know about the new QNX BlackBerry is that it will be a full touchscreen device and this one here has a keyboard. The author takes a guess at it and says it could be the BlackBerry 9980 and could just be an OS update addition other than what we have today with OS 7.
It doesn’t look like the familiar BlackBerry form factor we are used to although it has full QWERTY and the standard BlackBerry buttons we’ve always had. Still something about it that doesn’t seem right which always calls for suspicion that this could be a fake. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments!

According to RIM, a QNX BlackBerry would be in place early 2012. After that more inside info suggested the same in a device codenamed the BlackBerry “Colt.” A new rumor is floating around suggesting that the BlackBerry Colt might be due a bit earlier than expected. From what we’re hearing now, RIM is working hard to launch it before the end of 2011, which will probably be the holiday season at some point. The Colt is expected to sport a nice 4.3 inch display with a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor. It is single core, but would have been nice if RIM kept up with dual core as they did with the BlackBerry PlayBook. Either way it’s just a rumor for now and the last official word on a QNX BlackBerry remains to be 2012.
With that said, would you still consider purchasing an OS 7 device or wait it out for a QNX bad boy?

According to a new rumor from BGR, the first QNX smartphone from RIM is the BlackBerry Colt, as a codename for now. The rumor also suggests that the device will be single core processor, rather than the dual core which was previously rumored.
Currently there seems to be some issues getting BES to work with QNX OS for mobiles which leads to the next disappointment. The other rumor is that BES might not be supported out of the box, which is definitely a first for RIM as far as smartphones go.

As far as we know now, it was assumed that upcoming BlackBerry smartphones with OS 7 would be eligible for an update to QNX OS. Now a report over at Business Insider is suggesting that all these BlackBerry 7 devices will not be capable of updating to QNX in early 2012 when launched.
The alleged source is an insider from RIM, but hopefully this is just a misinterpreted rumor. It would be very inconvenient for BlackBerry users now, and a horrible future for the company if they seriously kill off these OS 7 devices in a few months just like that. Let’s hope this is just a rumor and not a reality.

Two days ago we heard the rumor that Android Player for BlackBerry PlayBook was delayed and due for some time in late fall. CrackBerry suggests that everything is on track and in schedule, as their source has mentioned. So it’s a matter of taking sides at this point to believe what you want or kick back and relax for it to launch patiently. How eager are you for the official Android Player?

What we really wanted to see is a late summer launch at least for Android Player on the BlackBerry PlayBook. A tip received over at Engadget suggests that Android Player is delayed until late fall unfortunately. Currently Android Player is leaked out and many BlackBerry PlayBook users have been able to load all sorts of Android games and apps on there. Some even got Android Market to work. Either way, RIM really needs to push the release on that soon even if they’re releasing all these great smartphones.

Features we’re eager to see on the BlackBerry PlayBook are native apps and Android Player (for those who don’t want to risk with the leaked version). According to a chart over at Chip.de, PlayBook OS 1.0.8 is scheduled to launch at the end of September. Unfortunately there is actual leaked memo we can refer to or anything, so we’ll let it be as a rumor hoping it’s true. There is no change log either but I bet native apps are scheduled for next PlayBook update. Not so sure about Android Player, although a combination of both would be nice, but too much to ask for from RIM I think.
