I’m going to start off by saying this. I use to do theme development “back in the day” for the BlackBerry 8300 and BlackBerry 8100. When I looked for themes I am hard to please and the last theme I was really in love with was a rotunda theme that was used on my BlackBerry 8900. Since then I have played around with themes here and there. Using them for a couple weeks and then taking it off. So I’m not easily satisfied with themes. However, I have been bombarded with BBM’s, tweets, etc to check out The Mini Banner Live 10 Theme from drkapprentice from MyBBOTA.com. I must admit I have tried it and I simply love it! If you haven’t downloaded this theme grab the link below and get this theme for FREE!

3d icons

BlackBerry users still enthuse over themes, and free ones are always nice to check out.  While browsing through BlackBerry App World, I noticed 3D Icons, a fairly new theme released (supporting OS 7 devices) which gives all your icons a new 3D look but with the BlackBerry style icon sketched on each one.

Hedone Design, one of the lead theme builders for BlackBerry just released their famous B77 theme which is based on Windows 7 for BlackBerry 7 smartphones.  As you can see in the screenshot, the icons resemble Windows 7.  You still get the same native panes as available in the stock BlackBerry 7 theme.  This one’s more of a face lift for your BlackBerry smartphone as fonts and icons have been changed around to match Windows 7.  You can grab a copy for $6.99 today.

Elecite let us know that they have just launched their first BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 theme.  It’s about time, as Elecite makes some pretty looking themes and I’m sure some of you theme junkies have been waiting to see them release one.  Unfortunately the Bold 9900 and 9930 are the only OS 7 devices supported at this time.  Features include:

  • Practical & pixel perfect design
  • UX approved navigation
  • Clean, simple & professional
  • 20 locked icons
  • 5 customizable icons
  • Polished dash board interface
  • Wallpaper friendly
  • Fast and snappy

Nova is a bit on the pricey side as it gets a $6.99 price tag.  Themes go for as low as 99 cents, but obviously here, you’re paying for the quality of the theme.  Click the link below to check out more on Nova or to purchase.

BlackBerry 7 themes are swarming everywhere nowadays.  Especially since themes weren’t available for a while due to the theme builder not supporting OS 7.  As I’m not a huge fan of themes, simple ones like 7Gold catch my attention.  The theme is very simple and clean.  As seen in the screenshot, it looks pretty stocked out, but be sure to click the link below for more details and screenshots.

The theme is only $1.99 so if you are using an OS 7 device check it out.

ondevice theme buildingondevice theme building 2

Now this is a useful application for those who want to get into theme building.  Since OS 7 now supports themes, people can start catering to that community as well rather than just those with OS 6 or older.  This tutorial takes you through four detailed steps: Intro, Preparation, Step by Step, and Monetize.  It’s surprisingly very informative and includes videos to exemplify the process of theme building.  It’s a free application for the BlackBerry PlayBook, so head over to App World and grab a copy.

I really wish this theme would be compatible with OS 7, but unfortunately is only for OS 6 devices.  Vigorous by Elecite brings a whole new user interface to your BlackBerry smartphone.  This is not the first time we see Elecite create themes with unique interfaces, but this one is quite impressive.  The screenshots pretty much explain themselves, but here’s some additional features included:

  • Fluid Performance
  • 25 locked icons
  • Customizable Icons
  • TINY file size
  • Snappy performance
  • Weather Slot
  • Intuitive Navigation
  • Modern Layout Design

So RIM does not exactly have the BlackBerry Theme Builder updated for OS 7 just yet.  Instead, they are encouraging the unofficial hack for Theme Studio which theme builders have been using for a few months now to get themes running on OS 7 devices.  You can see a whole section now available in BlackBerry App World.  Some are familiar as we’ve let you know on their releases in the past.  The P’9981 theme even got approved!

The folks over at BB-Freaks released a few free themes of BlackBerry 7 smartphones.  Compatible devices include the BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360, Bold 9900/9930, and Torch 9810/9850/9860.  Of course these themes are called “Basic OS 7 Series” so they are fairly basic and good for those who want a slight face lift to the over all user interface.

details theme builder os 7 twitter

BlackBerry 7 users have been left out of themes since launch.  Apparently there were issues building themes and releasing an appropriate theme builder for the operating system.  Shortly folks found a way around it and have released a few themes for OS 7 devices.  RIM stated on Twitter yesterday that they will be making announcements this month on themes for BlackBerry 7 devices.  We’re coming along towards the end of the month now, so we should be seeing announcements made anytime soon.
