While watching Sunday Night Football Sportsnation asked a question and wanted people to upload their video response to YouTube and the best response would be aired on ESPN’s Sportnation that Friday. So of course being the BlackBerry enthusiast and nerd that I am, I grabbed my PlayBook to see if I could actually record directly to YouTube from my BlackBerry PlayBook. The exciting thing about all of this is it worked, I was able to record, and re record, preview, upload, tag, and name it just like I would on my computer. The video above is just a short clip of what my experiment produced. The really cool thing about this is that YouTube recognized my hardware, It recognized a QNX microphone as well as a my front facing camera and my rear facing camera. Here’s some screenshots:

It is a very easy process and it sure beats having to download a zip file, and unzip it and connect your PlayBook to the computer etc. There is no computer necessary for this. Here are the steps:

Before I get into the process let’s state the obvious terms. Shazam is an application that allows you to tag songs you’re listening to. When I say “tagging” I mean that you can be in a car or club listening to a good song you like, then you open Shazam up on your BlackBerry, and Shazam will tell you the name of the song, artist, album, etc. Pretty cool stuff. Shazam lets you tag up to 5 songs a month free, or you can grab the premium version for $5.99 which gives you unlimited tags.

Yeah I know BBM Music isn’t available to the public just yet, but there are plenty of beta testers out there. So this tip goes for now and later of the option remains there. In BBM Music, it streams music off the cloud and you choose the songs you want in your top 50 list and can play all your BBM friends’ 50 songs as well. Get it?
Now to the point – if you’d like a more “flawless” experience with minimal leg when playing music, cache it! Simply when browsing through your BBM list, hit the menu button and you’ll see an option called “Cache My Songs.” This will cache your music to your memory card. With that said, you’ll have faster stream for your music with very little lag.
Thanks Luis from BerryReview for the tip!

By now it’s obvious that pressing ALT L G L G on your home screen will launch Event Log on your BlackBerry. But what happens when you have a full touchscreen device such as the BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860? It’s still possible to do and here’s how:
- Select the Universal Search icon located on the upper right hand corner of your home screen underneath your signal meter.
- Now that your in the text field and the keyboard has automatically launched, hit the symbol/number key located on the lower left of the keyboard.
- Type “ / “ / (quote, forward slash, quote, forward slash) just as you see it and the Event Log will come up.
That’s all there is to it. From here you can see your full event log and choose to delete it by clicking menu delete log.

- Use text messaging to communicate instead of voice calls. Text messaging has a greater success rate in getting through the network during high-usage periods.
- Keep your calls short in duration.
- Utilize Wi-Fi calling if your device has the feature. This feature takes advantage of your in-home data connection to place calls in case the cellular network is congested or down.
- Make sure your phone is fully charged prior to the storm. Consider obtaining a vehicle charger in the event of power loss.

I noticed on both the BlackBerry Bold 9930 and BlackBerry Torch 9810 that in the Setup menu there’s a new option called “Device Switch.” In this menu, you get the luxury of switching BlackBerry devices by backing everything up to your memory card and then exporting it back out to your new one. The second option is to switch through Desktop Manager where you’ll just see instructions written.
I think switching BlackBerry devices has become a big problem for a while with all the confusions that OS 5 and OS 6 had in the past.

BBM integration is getting more and more popular everyday with third party applications since RIM officially launched the service. It started out with a few apps including Foursquare and ScoreMobile, and now there are plenty of apps supporting it. In BlackBerry App World (3.0 Beta), I noticed a category dedicated to BBM Connected applications. Found it useful for seeing all apps connected, as before you pretty much had to search for them on your own or wait to hear about them on the blogs. There are premium and free apps in the list, and I’m sure you’ll find some you didn’t know had BBM integration yet. Check it out at App World!
