EXPRESS, a popular clothing franchise for men and women recently arrived on BlackBerry smartphones.  I’ve been using it for a few months and thought it was worthy sharing with you folks, especially since no publicity has been made about it yet.  With the interactive application, you can shop, check out the full catalog of clothing, locate an EXPRESS clothing store near by, and more.  It’s available for BlackBerry, Android and iPhone.  Click the link below to download.  On a side note, the BlackBerry Pearl and Storm are not supported.

message prevue

The Jared Company let us know they put out their popular application called Message Prevue on sale for only 99 cents.  Message Prevue provides a way to view incoming messages without exiting the screen you are already on.  We can look at this like notifications on the iPhone where a pop up comes up rather than having to exit out completely and open up messages.  Features of Message Prevue include:

  • When you receive an BBM, email or SMS, a small pop-up appears on your screen showing name of sender and subject line. Nothing to open, nothing to boot, nothing to lose. You remain connected.
  • The information won’t clutter your screen because the pop up slowly fades after you’ve seen who’s reaching out. Read and *poof*. Gone.
  • You never have to access your email folder to see who’s contacted you. Senders and subjects of incoming texts are right in front of you. Sweet.

Aside from the Client for Google Chat, the same developer released Client for Facebook chat, also for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  The Facebook chat feature is available through the native Facebook client, but some prefer a standalone chat application.  We have one for BlackBerry smartphones too which seemed to take off well.  Client for Facebook Chat carries a $1.99 price tag so determine if it’s something you’d like to buy.

For new BlackBerry devices, Music Store comes pre-installed.  Now for older devices with OS 6 or even OS 5, there is no native music solution.  You could just download the 7Digital Music Store which is pretty much the same thing but it’s not RIM’s native music store app.  Any way, RIM has launched Music Store in BlackBerry App World for many devices- not only OS 7.  Also, good stuff seeing it’s back to 7Digital and not Amazon MP3.  This way the PlayBook and smartphones share the same source for music rather than two different libraries and purchases.

There’s no native Google Talk client for the BlackBerry PlayBook yet, so third party applications are the way to go for getting your fix for now.   Client for Google Talk is a simple and elegant app which of course allows you to chat with your Google Talk clients on it.  You can grab it at BlackBerry App World for $1.99.

Kim-Kardashian-Google-Alerts

If you thought all these celebrities with BlackBerry smartphone paparazzi pictures were creepy, this one takes it to the next level.  Here we see Kim Kardashian walking out somewhere, and her BlackBerry Bold 9900 screen is facing the camera.  As seen above, her Bold 9900 screen is very visible and displays Google alerts on it – of herself!

So what’s this mean exactly? She’s getting Google Alerts every time something is published with her name on the web.  So that’s what she does all day on her BlackBerry- read all about herself.  Nice.

bold9900knockedoff-e1328125124522

That definitely comes as a surprise.  It looks like some BlackBerry Bold 9900 users are getting keys knocked off due to the OEM BlackBerry holster.  The case for the Bold 9900 is slim indeed, but we’ve seen those low profile holsters for a few years now.  I guess it depends how you put it in and out (that’s what she said).

The weirdest part of this is it has only been reported for users who purchased their Bolds before November 3rd.

The notice reads: “RIM has identified a design issue with the holsters supplied withBlackBerry Bold 9900 devices manufactured before November 3, 2011. Due to a folded edge, inside the lip of the holster, keys on the keyboard can be caught and knocked off when inserting the device into the holster at an angle with excessive force.”

Any Bold 9900 owners experiencing any issues?

Here’s an awesome tool for developers or those who just like to mess around with code.  Compilr is a free application which allows you to write code right on your BlackBerry PlayBook.  If you want to test out any coding, you can do so on your tablet.  I’m sure people will get creative here and find some cool things to code.  It’s free to download from BlackBerry App World.
