London, U.K. (May 1, 2012): Truphone today announced it’s developing a global roaming application based on RIM’s BlackBerry 10 platform. The new application will let BlackBerry 10 users make international calls and send text messages over Wi-Fi or 4G/LTE at rates up to 90 percent cheaper than mobile operator tariffs.
BlackBerry 10’s advanced APIs, new programming tools, intuitive programming environment and developer features are enabling Truphone to slash development time and create market-differentiating features. As a result, the new Truphone app will provide a superior user experience, including reliable, high-quality Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE calling and other over-the-top (OTT) services that take advantage of the BlackBerry 10 platform.

Right after today’s General Session Keynote at BlackBerry World 2012, we had the opportunity to take a look at the device hands on. As it was really hard to get to the device with everyone hovering over it, we managed to snag a few shots. The developer version seems to be really raw, as its goal is to allow developers to make applications for the platform and test them out on their own. RIM is making a very close partnership with developers, and giving them the tools needed to understand BlackBerry 10. This way when the product launches there is already an ecosystem of applications already available for the end users. Furthermore, the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha smartphones that developers will be receiving is extremely useful for that content to leverage upon the device’s official launch.
During the keynote we got to see what it was like to type on the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. Surprisingly the keyboard looks easy to use and contains features we have never seen in any other on-screen keyboard from any manufacturer. For example, swiping to the left on the keyboard allows you to delete the text rather than hovering to a backspace/delete button. Watch the full clip to see how fluid typing is on the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha.
BlackBerry 10 has made its official debut today at Thorsten Heins has come on stage and announced the platform as well as the Dev Alpha device which every developer will be receiving. Next we got a chance to see the BlackBerry 10 Sneak Peek video which showed off some cool features of the device. Again, the device is not official just yet so we’ll have to wait for the official later this year.
Here we see a little teaser of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha where see swipe gestures. To navigate back to messages, the user simply swipes back to the left and you can take a sneak peak at what’s there. Again, this is just a teaser but definitely more videos to come here from the keynote.
RIM CEO Thorsten Heins has just officially announced the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha. This is a prototype BlackBerry 10 smartphones made for developers to get the ball rolling with their apps for the new platform. The CEO has announced that every BlackBerry 10 Jam session attendee will be receiving the device for free today. They do it because they “understand that we want key content on BlackBerry 10,” according to the CEO.
