Managing your panels is definitely an awesome feature in BlackBerry 7 OS.  OS 6 was great, but the downfall was that you had panels which you might not of wanted to be there.  Some users prefer to be classic with just one single panel.  Either way, it’s quite simple to do and here’s how.

tmo carrieriq document

Last week CarrierIQ was definitely among one of the bigger trending topics when it comes to the mobile industry.  CarrierIQ was claimed to be existent in all mobile devices where carriers would be able to snoop messages sent received for their customers.  BlackBerry smartphones were accused to have CarrierIQ software, but RIM suggested that they do not install any of that on their smartphones.

TmoNews published a document today showing that CarrierIQ software is installed on the BlackBerry Curve 9360, Bold 9900, and Torch 9810.  But T-Mobile claims it is not snooping on what you’re doing.  This is what’s mentioned in the document:

  • Battery performance: If a customer’s device battery appears not to be holding a charge, T-Mobile can determine if the issue is the battery, charger or device
  • Dropped calls: If a customer attempts to make a call and the call fails, T-Mobile can determine whether the cause was the handset or the network
  • Application failures: If a customer uses an application, preinstalled or downloaded from a third-party marketplace, and the app fails, T-Mobile will be able to troubleshoot that app failure, which may be perceived by the customer to be the device freezing/crashing

Does the info drive you away from T-Mobile or not concern you at all as a customer?

BlackBerry Protect just got an update to version 1.1.1.50 today.  The update is for BlackBerry 7 OS devices only!  Unfortunately there is no change log- all we see is the message that reads “BlackBerry Protect version 1.1.1.50 is an update for BlackBerry 7 devices only.” If you spot anything new here, let us know!  It looks like the new version is not listed in BlackBerry App World web store but if you head over to App World from your BlackBerry and refresh, you should see it roll out.

os 7-1 simulators download online

We should be getting OS 7.1 sometime soon as the end of the year is close to coming to an end.  A good sign of a soon launch is the simulators available online. N4BB spotted that three device simulators for OS 7.1 are available on BlackBerry’s website.  So if you want to take a sneak peek on what’s ahead in the new OS, give the simulator a go.

So it looks like the BlackBerry Curve 9380 and BlackBerry Bold 9790 are RIM’s last OS 7 devices they will be releasing.  We’ve seen one too many over the last few months that by now you should definitely find the Berry customized to your needs.  So what’s next? BBX it is!  BBX is the next operating system RIM will be launching on BlackBerry smartphones.  Formerly known as QNX which is currently what BlackBerry PlayBook OS consists of,  BBX will be the single OS to be on all platforms.  It’s nice to see RIM go the same direction Apple and Android went with their tablets and devices keeping it all under the same platform.

There’s one too many benefits with BBX OS and we can’t wait to get one of these devices on hand already.

I bet it’s so hard to keep up with all the OS builds available for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 nowadays.  We’ve had one too many leaks over the last couple weeks for it.  I’m having a hard time keeping up myself as I just installed 7.0.0.503 the other day. Today we see OS 7.0.0.540, a bit of a jump from the previous build a few days ago. There’s no word on how stable this OS is here, but it’s newer than them all as of today.  If you decide to install let us know if you spot anything new or experience anything at all.

Yesterday I used Shazam to tag a song on my Bold 9930, and then clicked to purchase the song where I was then prompted to download 7Digital Music Store.  When I first started using the new Bold, there was no support for 7Digital yet, but now it looks like it’s been updated since the 4th this month as CrackBerry has spotted.

Surely OS 7 devices have “Music Store” powered by Amazon MP3.  Before OS 7 launched, 7Digital was the music store for BlackBerry devices and actually still is on the BlackBerry PlayBook.  Why start your music collection all over when you can keep building up on it from where you left off?  Download 7Digital Music Store free at BlackBerry App World.

We got the word from Kisai Labs that their Show Me The Images application for BlackBerry smartphones is now supported on OS 7 devices.  For those who haven’t heard of this app before, it automatically shows the rich format of your email without having to select “Get Images” from the menu for each message.  It’s only $1.99 in BlackBerry App World to purchase and definitely a must have for those who like getting full rich content in their email.

You have to admit that white BlackBerry devices just look way hotter.  Everytime a new BlackBerry launches, we’re always waiting to see when the white version comes out.  Phones 4 U is offering the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and Curve 9360 in white color for pre-order now.  The Torch 9810 we’ve seen in white as AT&T offers the flavor already from launch day.  As for the Bold 9900, we’re only starting to see the device come in white along with the Curve 9360.

I noticed on BlackBerry.com that RIM has filled up the whole front page with this new commercial clip they have called “The Incredible Powerful BlackBerry 7 OS.”  I guess we can all agree that the biggest push for the new line of BlackBerry devices is performance.  This new commercial is rather nicer than others we’ve seen in my opinion.  Let us know what you think.
