We’ve heard rants and seen a few rumors about RIM’s soon to be released BlackBerry PlayBook supporting Android applications.  The folks over at ShopSavvy are saying that there has been three instances already of a BlackBerry smartphone handling their Android application allegedly.  Here’s their log:

  • BlackBerry 8300 ran ShopSavvy on January 31, 2011
  • BlackBerry 8600 ran ShopSavvy on January 17 and 24, 2011
  • BlackBerry 8520 ran ShopSavvy on February 7, 2011

These stats come from Waterloo, Ontario in Canada…which yes, is where RIM is based out of.  The device model numbers are a bit strange though.  We have the BlackBerry 8600, which was the Curve 3G at one point, but is now the 9300 series.  Then we see the 8300 which is the FIRST generation Curve, which barely has any juice.  Then there’s the 8520, which has been discontinued and replaced with the Curve 3G 9300.  All three of these devices appear to be from the Curve family, but why? It doesn’t make any sense now, but I hope the picture’s clearer soon enough.

I don’t know what this is.  If there was no BlackBerry Curve 9300 around, I would of assumed this to be the next generation of the 8500 series Curve.  All we know about this is that it has 3G, WiFi, and is currently running OS 5.0.0.564 with a platform of 6.0.0.45.  All we see here is the About screen which gives only so much info.  Hopefully the next screenshots will show the actual device.  This could very well be intended as the next gen Curve at some point and ended its life as a prototype but it’s hard to tell anything now. If anyone has any ideas drop us a line!
