BlackBerry DevCon Americas 2011 starts officially tomorrow and we’re excited to see what’s in store for the keynote. We had the chance to explore App Express exhibit (since that’s all that is open at the moment). Here are some images of what we can see so far from the DevCon show case. App Express is the station set up for Android developers who want to port their applications to the BlackBerry PlayBook. It’s easy accessible right in the hallway for developers to approach right on the spot and get to work with the help of RIM developers. Hit the jump to see all photos.

BlackBerry DevCon 2011 is here at last, and we are here covering it live. This year RIM is giving out Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 Premium free for all developers attending the event. The software is intended to build good applications for BlackBerry Tablet OS via Adobe AIR.
On a side note, Adobe is providing two code camps for help setting up Flash Builder to work well with the BlackBerry PlayBook. If you’re attending DevCon, visit the Adobe booth for more info and free software!

We already knew that QNX BlackBerry smartphones would be floating around BlackBerry DevCon this year for us to check out. Last year RIM’s big DevCon announcement was the BlackBerry PlayBook and this year should be QNX on BlackBerry smartphones. CrackBerry put out a rumored tip today suggesting that the QNX OS for BlackBerry smartphones is to be called BlackBerry X or BBX. OSX obviously wouldn’t work since Apple has that pretty locked down. RIM is expected to announce the new OS at DevCon, as I can’t imagine we’ll be seeing QNX smartphones out in the wild at the event without RIM officially announcing them. Let’s just hope the devices aren’t displayed behind glass like the PlayBook last year.

The BlackBerry DevCon Americas 2011 application for BlackBerry is finally out! This year it supports both BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook which was expected in my opinion. Last year the DevCon app was a disaster for many and took way too long to load for everyone.
The PlayBook version gives a really clean layout and moves pretty quick. The icons shown are Sessions, Speakers, Sponsors, Agenda, Social Networks, and Settings. You can login to the app with your user name assigned if you’re attending the event later this month.
Now for the BlackBerry application, it looks like last year’s a bit. If I’m not mistaken, the app loads a bit faster. The layout appears to be the same and everything moves fluid once the app is loaded. As a personal suggestion for those attending DevCon, keep the app open in the background you intend on using it on the regular there.
