Is SureType dead? I find myself using it from time to time on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, when I don’t feel like sliding the keyboard out. Last year ad WES 2010, RIM officially announced the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 and 9105. It didn’t hit the United States til way later, and AT&T picked up sometime in October. Before that, the Pearl family was pretty much dead as RIM spoiled us with QWERTY BlackBerry smartphones for quite a while. After the Pearl came a few Curve and Bold devices, making us forget about the condensed keyboard.

I’m not so sure how many of you out there are using the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, but Telus has just released an OS update for it bringing it to OS 6.0.0.481. The Pearl 3G is a great device, counted among one of my favored but we’ve been spoiled way too long with larger screens to go backwards to the small display. Any way, you can grab the OS officially at Telus.

It’s been a while since we saw any news for the BlackBerry Pearl 3g 9100 and 9105. So here’s OS 6.0.0.481 for the Pearl 3G, for those of you rockin’ the device. The 6.0 leaks so far have been a bit buggy versus what we’ve seen in other leaks, so I’m hoping this one’s more stable. If any of you decide to take a stab at it, let us know how it goes. Below are two download links to grab it from. This is for both the 9100 and 9105 models.

If there’s anything I’ve noticed, it’s that smartphones in Canada are really pricey on one year term contracts, and no contract prices for them are just expensive everywhere. Usually you have to go for the 3 year to get a good price, comparable to what we have in the United States. Telus has put up the BlackBerry Pearl 3G for only $200 flat out with no contract. So if you’re in need of a new BlackBerry and don’t mind some Pearl action with SureType, this is definitely a good buy where you won’t have to commit to any strings attached contracts.

I know the BlackBerry Pearl series isn’t as popular as it was back in the day when the 8100 was first announced. But I seriously have not seen anyone walk around with a BlackBerry Pearl 3G since it arrived here in the US for AT&T. I know it’s available in Canada and overseas as well, but it doesn’t seem to be popular at all.
We’ve got all sorts of BlackBerry smartphones out now that rock full QWERTY keyboards and larger displays, so does the Pearl still appeal at all? I’m really curious how many of you out there are actually using them at the moment. So cast your votes please and let us know!

What a coincidence! We just rolled out our BlackBerry Pearl 3G review today with 6.0 on it, and now we see a later version leak out. This is OS 6.0.0.418 for the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 and 9105. As you may have noticed, it’s the same version as we’ve seen today for both the Bold 9700 and Curve 3G 9300. If you currently have a Pearl 3G at hand, check out this build as I’m sure it’ll be a lot smoother that the last 6.0 with all its memory leaks.

Although the BlackBerry Pearl 3G was originally announced at WES earlier this year, it only recently came to AT&T in the United States. I won’t speak for everyone, but I was very excited to see a new generation Pearl launch with enhanced specs, and as we now know – supporting BlackBerry 6 OS. I spent the last month testing the BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 full time, just to see how it suits me as I have become used to the Torch for a little while now. Hit the jump for our full review.

This poll came really close to being 50/50. I was kind of surprised to see that the Pearl still had loyal fans. The results I was expecting here was that more would lean on no interest in the Pearl 3G at all across the board. Little did I know, there’s still quite a community out there that appreciates the Pearl , but would be more fond of it with BlackBerry 6 OS on it. The results were:
- Yes – 53.85%
- No – 46.15%
So not much a tie breaker here, and it’s a slim win for those interested in the Pearl 3G with BlackBerry 6 OS on it. After posting this poll up, I actually had the chance to try out the BlackBerry Pearl 3G with 6.0 on it. I must say it does change the experience up quite a bit, and you start to appreciate the form factor of the Pearl a lot more with its small size yet powerful capabilities the BlackBerry 6 has to offer.
