For those of you who are familiar with a card game called Spit, also known as Speed will love this news. For those of you not familiar with this game it is very simple. Move as fast as possible to get rid of your cards by following a numerical sequence.

I stumbled across Spit while browsing App World on my PlayBook. After downloading the game I realized it was a ported app, and to my surprise it looks pretty good, and flows nicely. The game is very simple to pick up and understand, and the options allow you to choose how fast the computer responds to the game. You can pick this game up for $0.99 in App World for your PlayBook. Check out the link below.

It looks like a new OS update for the BlackBerry PlayBook is now available.  This one is OS 2.0.1.358 – not as long as the previous versions were.  This is the first update we receive since the initial launch of OS 2.0.  Check out the change log below:

  • Browser enhancements to address performance with some websites
  • Improvements to support Android apps
  • Optimizations to Video Chat, PIM and BlackBerry Bridge applications
  • And much more!
You should be prompted to update, but you can always manually fetch for it by going to Settings then Software Update.  Read more at Inside BlackBerry on the new update. Enjoy the new OS!

Doodle Shapes is a new game released in BlackBerry App World for the PlayBook.  The objective of the game is to use your finger to draw different designs needed to move the ball into the desired location.  It’s definitely a lot of fun to play and requires some thinking for those who enthuse over puzzle games.  It is available as free and premium version in App World.  The free version acts more of a demo since only three of the forty levels are available.  So if you like the game, you can buy it for 99 cents.

To kill off any rumors or misunderstandings, Alec Saunders from RIM has stepped up and address everyone’s concerns.  Here we see it emphasized that side-loading on the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 in the future will not be killed off.  We see a post on BlackBerry Dev Blog addressing the concern which outlines that side-loading will remain for the sake of developers testing their apps, not for pirating applications.  Check out below for the Q&A from RIM:

We’re not getting rid of side-loading on the BlackBerry PlayBook OS or in BlackBerry 10.
Side-loading on our platform is changing in nature. Side-loading is a developer feature. It exists so that developers can load their apps onto their own devices to test. It’s there so developers can send a beta release to their testing community for review. It is definitely not there for some people to side load a pirated app.

Angry Birds Space for BlackBerry PlayBook showed up overnight but it appears that RIM has removed it from BlackBerry App World.  There’s no telling why this happened, but it did.  At least we know the game is out there for the PlayBook and hasn’t been left behind.  Angry Birds Space goes for $4.99 just like the other versions of Angry Birds.  I guess it’s a matter of time until we get to see it up again.  Let us know if you see it come back and check back at App World for the game.

Thanks Bogizo for sending this in!

The BlackBerry PlayBook 4G has made another appearance.  We don’t get a hands on here, but more or so an indication of where the sim card slot is.  So there it is! It’s on the bottom bezel on the back where a compartment slides out and a sim card goes in the dish- easy as that.  We also notice that it says BlackBerry 4G PlayBook along the bottom as well.  Now we need to see a hands on already.  Perhaps BlackBerry World will be showing off some this year.

It looks like just a small update for Navita Translator for BlackBerry PlayBook has arrived today.  It’s a small jump from version 2.6.6 to 2.6.8, so it’s probably bug fixes.  One thing I’ve noticed, is that the application would hang sometimes when clicking the Twitter button.  I’ve been able to reproduce the issue on two other PlayBooks running OS 2.0 as well but it doesn’t always happen.  Any way, if you notice any changes, drop us a line!  Navita Translator is free to download for BlackBerry smartphones and PlayBook.  Click the link below to download from BlackBerry App World.

We’ve seen BlackBerry 10 come up as an OS on HTML 5 testing sites, and now see it pop up again, but this time for the BlackBerry PlayBook.  While RIM is focusing on OS 10 for smartphones, it looks like the PlayBook has been given priority as well.  The HTML 5 scores look good so far as BlackBerry 10 stands high at 361 with Chrome Beta on Android 4 devices at 343 and Firefox Mobile 12 at 318.  Of course this is all in beta now, so we hope to see even high scores upon an official launch of the OS later on this year.
