So just when you thought the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 was not getting any more updates, a new one has rolled out. Ehab let me know that he got a new OS for his Storm 2 this morning. This one we were expecting to see roll out since we saw the leaked version not too long ago. Verizon Wireless has picked this version up officially so you’ll be able to download it on your computers, and hopefully OTA.

Both the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 and BlackBerry Bold 9650 get OS 5.0.0.983 today. They’re both from different carriers, but you can certainly work your magic to get it going. In any case the links are both below and they are official OS builds from CBeyond and Inland Cellular.

UPDATE: After a brief discussion with Bla1ze, it looks like this is for the 9520 and not for the 9550! The OS was posted as 9550 on the BlackBerry OS page by accident. Sorry folks.

It’s a bit crazy seeing the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 go down just like that. When I think about it, I feel like it was too short lived of a device. Then I remember last week where we saw Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 OS 6 testing ceased. Was making it an end of life device a decision after the testing failures or was it going down any way?
Second in line is the BlackBerry Curve 8530. So what. We have a Curve 9300 which is pretty much the same device as the 8530. Everyone calls the Curve 9300 the 8500 series Curve with 3G. Well guess what folks – the Curve 8530 did have 3G for those who forgot already. Goodbye 8530! Hit the jump to check out the full notes on the end of life devices and when their replacements are expected to launch.

So Verizon has halted all BlackBerry 6 testing on the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. There’s a few different possibilities here as to why this has happened. One which is the most obvious is the lack of memory the Storm 2 has. When I say “lack,” I mean not enough to support BlackBerry 6 (OS 6). If this is true, supported devices for OS 6 does not seem to be what we thought it would. Surely there’s many Storm 2 users out there, but there are a lot more Bold 9700 users. Seeing things like this as a 9700 owner makes you bite your nails a bit when wondering if OS 6 will support it or not.

We’re happy to see Open GL get implemented in games at last. Back in the BlackBerry Developer Conference, we were teased with games such as Need for Speed on the BlackBerry Storm 2 rockin’ Open GL technology. Kyle from BlackBerry Cool spotted that PBA Bowling 2 is now available for the BlackBerry Storm 2 so we had to share it with you too given that Open GL is the next exciting aspects for BlackBerry. The original 9500/9530 is not getting the same technology so make sure you have the BlackBerry Storm 9520/9550 to get the best bang out of your graphics. For only $2.99, you can have this game on your BlackBerry Storm 2 as a limited time sale til January 4th. After that, it’ll be bumped back up to $4.99 so make sure you get your game today.

Back in October when the BlackBerry Storm2 9550 made its launch with Verizon Wireless, we told you we were going to hold on to the device for sometime, and let you know about the fullest experiences. Many of you were scared to get any where close to the Storm 2 as you were dreaded from your previous experience with the 4.7 OS Storm 9530. Well I manned up and put my foot to the plate on this one as I had to find out what was to be of the recent released BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. So as mentioned before, we did some test runs on the device. Of course do not go through the same testing strategies as we do not want to take any responsibility in potential dangers you may face! Continue reading to check out the random adventures we took with the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550.

The BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 has made its way to Telus. To take all the confusion away, this device is a CDMA, and not GSM like the BlackBerry Bold 9700 being offered. As for pricing, you can grab one with no contract for $599.99. For a one year you’ll save 50 bucks getting it at $549.99, $499.99 with a two year, and a nice $199.99 with a three year contract. Which will you commit to signing up with to get the Storm 2?
