We’ve seen 3D renders of the BlackBerry Bold Touch codename Dakota and Montana, but this is the first time ever we see the devices live.  Does the device remind you of a device from the past? Looks a lot like the original BlackBerry Bold 9000 – sort of.  So here’s a quick gallery teasing of the new touchscreen BlackBerry Bold.  The compass app looks sexy.  You’ll see it side by side with the beloved BlackBerry Bold 9700 series to see size comparison.  Hit the jump for more.

Carrier News, Rumors »

[17 Feb 2011 | No Comment | ]

Ok so here we go.  We let you know about T-Mobile holding a “See BlackBerry Different” event for employees and we weren’t quite sure what would be displayed.  For starters, the carrier is expected to have the BlackBerry PlayBook, offering the WiFi model only with no 3G/4G model in talks (according to the event).  PlayBooks were displayed all around the exhibit for employees to finger for a bit before the presentation started.

The rumors just keep surfacing.  Last week we did a post on AT&T pulling the BlackBerry Bold 9700 from their site assuming that the Bold 9780 would be coming soon.  Sources are saying that stores are selling what they have of the Bold 9700, with no plan of restocking.  We’ve already seen an AT&T branded Bold 9780 through leaked videos and they had the AT&T splash screen on boot and everything.  Now a new rumor from Fudzilla suggests that AT&T has put the Bold 9700 on hold because the BlackBerry Dakota is going to be launching soon.

Well, we already assumed this was going to be the next BlackBerry Bold, but we did not see any branding of it until now.  BGR rolled out extended images of the leaked devices today showing more angles this time around and it surely says “Bold” on the back.  So there you have it – the Dakota is the Bold, just gets a larger display and touchscreen.

It’s been sooo long since we’ve had a BlackBerry device leak.  At last we get to see the BlackBerry Dakota.  It’s not the dual core processor BlackBerry we were all expecting, but according to what we see so far, the specs have been improved.  Below are the specs of the device:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band UMTS
  • 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, flash, and image stabilization
  • 4GB of built in storage, 768MB of RAM
  • 2.8-inch VGA 640×480 capacitive screen
  • WiFi b,g,n on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies
  • 3G mobile hotspot!
  • MicroUSB port
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Magnetometer
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • 10.5mm thin
  • Launches with BlackBerry OS 6.1

So what do you think? A full QWERTY BlackBerry with touchscreen on the top.  Not the same form factor as a Torch but of a Bold instead.  I love it.

We don’t know how factual any of this can be, but according to Business Insider, this is the road map for BlackBerry in Quarter 3 and 4.  First thing we want to see is the BlackBerry Bold 9800 (Torch perhaps) as we expected to see it this month at first.  According to this map above, the 9800 gets to be exclusive for six months with AT&T which makes us want to assume that T-Mobile could very well be getting it later on.  Other devices on there include the Curve 9300 and Atlas which is what we’ve seen as the 8910.  Weird devices we saw on there is the 9900, which is a touch screen version of the Bold 9700 according to the chart rockin’ 512MB of RAM and a 5MP camera.  What we want to know if RIM is going to have this 9700a alongside with this alleged 9900 device.  Another oddball is the touchscreen Curve with the codename Dakota which is also styled out the same way — fully QWERTY Curve with a touchscreen.  Of course the very ugly clamshell 9670 is on there too and is expected to be launching for Verizon in either Q3 or Q4 this year.

All these are rumors as of now, and there’s not telling what’s true and what’s not so take it as it is.
