Foursquare for BlackBerry just updated to version 3.1.5. The last update we saw, it brought in the BBM integration for everyone, rather than the previous alpha build which limited to only a number of people. It looks like this build has some UI changes but not a huge jump from the previous v3.1. No change log attached to this one, but if you spot something be sure to let us know!

Ever since the launch of BBM 6 with itsSocial Platform and apps such as Foursquare (which has been upgraded to support RIM’s Social Platform), there has been a lot of talk of what it can do. Let’s take a look at foursquare with Social Platform. One of the many awesome features is:
First awesome and obvious feature is the ability to let your friends or family on BBM know where you are at. Your BBM contacts may not be on Foursquare, or have a Facebook or Twitter to know what you are doing. What a great way to let them know where you are and what you’re doing.

Today, most highly functional smart phone apps use some form of geolocation to help you find just about anything you need from the street you are looking for to the restaurant you keep hearing about. A smart phone trend that has been growing in popularity is “checking in” which uses geolocation to allow individuals to show when they have shown up at restaurants, bars, or stores.
Nearly all smart phones today, including your Blackberry, has a GPS chip inside. This little chip is what makes these phones so useful when wanting directions or wanting to know your exact location in relation to something. However, GPS doesn’t always work right, and when GPS fails, geolocation kicks in making it possible for you to get your location on a whim.

When Foursquare 3.0 first came in Alpha for BlackBerry, users were able to integrate it with BBM6. Now in version 3.1, the feature is back and open for everyone else as well. For the update it says “includes BBM6 and incremental update to the UI and app performance.” So maybe nothing noticeable much in the UI but BBM6 integration is the biggest chunk in the deal as most were disabled from trying it out before. Download it free at App World!

Back at BlackBerry World this year, we saw Foursquare demoed with the BBM Social Platform. It’s been months in waiting, but now it looks like the feature has released in v3.0 Alpha of Foursquare for BlackBerry. So here’s how it works. You can check into Foursquare and then have your BBM status update with your location. To have it all working well, you need BBM 6 which is only available through BlackBerry Beta Zone, and the alpha version of Foursquare.

Foursquare made a nice announcement today introducing their partnership with American Express. With that said, you can link your American Express card to your Foursquare account to receive rewards and points when going to different venues. Here’s how to do it all:
- link your AmEx and foursquare accounts (you can do it here);
- check in at a participating store and tap ‘load to card’ on the Special; and,
- pay with your AmEx card.

We just had Foursquare for BlackBerry Alpha v1.9.89 release, and now a new alpha has launched quietly. This one’s a small jump to v1.9.90, which hopefully and most likely addresses some bugs from the .89 build. Keep in mind this version is still in alpha and is not available.
