An article over at Business Insider talks about some news from the past on how RIM saw the Apple iPhone and strongly believed it was “badly flawed.”  RIM execs even tried convincing superiors to go towards devices with better web experiences and larger screen devices but was denied.  At that point in time, RIM only saw secure email and physical QWERTY keyboards to be essential in smartphones.

Look where we’ve reached today.  Thankfully RIM has rolled out many new devices which do compromise to better web and application experience.  They’re not at the finish line yet with the not-so-new hardware now, but they are getting there, and we have a tablet launching anytime soon in the near future.

When the iPhone was announced by Verizon, we ran a quick post to see who was interested and switching over.  Now pre-ordering is officially available as of tomorrow, and some of you had lots of time to think this one through.  So drop a line, tweet us, or cast a vote in the poll – are you pre-ordering the Verizon iPhone?

Apple announced the new iPod Touch today which has the lates iOS4 including multitasking and two cameras (both front and back).  Something BlackBerry users are “missing out on” is the Face Time capability and of course a wide range of applications which a lot of BlackBerry users suggest are 90% useless.  Either way, this iPod Touch comes very close to being the new iPhone 4 as far as the OS and specs go, minus the phone capability.

With that said, does purchasing one satisfy your iPhone itch and keep you on BlackBerry or does it interest you to drop your Berry and move on to the iPhone.  Of course some may have no interest in the device at all, but how do you folks who think about owning an iPhone feel about having an iPod Touch and keeping your BlackBerry?  Cast your votes below, drop us a comment, or even tweet us!

We would like this to be as unbiased as possible but of course since we are a BlackBerry oriented website, we do assume many folks will go for the BlackBerry OS.  At this same time, there are BlackBerry users today who have thought about switching out to other platforms such as Android based devices or the iPhone so we’ll probably see some mixed results.  Take it as it is, many publications and blogs are stating that the BlackBerry 6 operating system was a “make it or break it” for RIM, and we want to know where people stand at the moment after seeing what it’s all about.  So what OS are you currently impressed by at the moment? iOS(Apple), Android, or BlackBerry 6 ?  If you’re browsing via mobile, drop us a tweet on what you think.

I was waiting to see what RIM would do or say in response to Apple’s remarks yesterday taking jabs at BlackBerry devices and other smartphones.  So here’s the official statement from Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie:

“Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. Apple’s claims about RIM products appear to be deliberate attempts to distort the public’s understanding of an antenna design issue and to deflect attention from Apple’s difficult situation. RIM is a global leader in antenna design and has been successfully designing industry-leading wireless data products with efficient and effective radio performance for over 20 years. During that time, RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs which reduce the risk for dropped calls, especially in areas of lower coverage. One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity. Apple clearly made certain design decisions and it should take responsibility for these decisions rather than trying to draw RIM and others into a situation that relates specifically to Apple.”

To me it seems like RIM is really well spoken in this matter.  I’m happy they responded quick and right to the point as BlackBerry smartphones do not need to be used in cases in order to have service bars.  Good job RIM!

  • UPDATE: Apple.com/antenna to see what Apple says about the Bold 9700 and how it faces the same antenna issue. Do any of you believe it to be true?

What? Steve Jobs really took a jab at RIM this time.  During the press conference which is currently going on now, Steve Jobs makes mention of the BlackBerry and shows the bars of one go down because of the way it is gripped.  How do you folks hold your BlackBerry? Do you ever get dropped calls and data losses when holding it in any typical way? The iPhone 4 is clearly defective because you cannot hold the device in your hand and get adequate service.  A BlackBerry’s antenna is not designed the same as Apple’s new faulty product.  Jobs also takes a stab at other devices as well including the HTC Droid and Samsung Omnia.  Stay tuned for more as we find out if Jobs takes any more jabs at RIM.

We couldn’t get an image of the BlackBerry demoed but here’s the Samsung Omnia. Hit the link below to check these guys out live!

As many of you know by now, the iPhone 4 has been a miserable disaster for many.  To make a long story short, the device is not getting good reception at all, as holding it in your hand blocks service which results in a weaker signal.  Apple says they have a software update that will fix this, but admitted issue is that the iPhone displays double the bars it should.  So yes, if you’re in an area with all 5 bars full and get dropped calls, Apple says you do not have full bars and actually have half of that resulting in a dropped call.

This isn’t directly related to BlackBerry, but we all know the iPhone goes head to head with the BlackBerry, so we came across this funny clip.  It’s in reference to the whole reception issue folks were having when holding the iPhone a certain way.  Apple’s response was to hold the phone differently or get a case for it.  It’s pretty much a big slap in the face, and we had to show you this video I came across on BerryScoop criticizing Apple in a Hitler comedy with subtitles.

We’re not going into so much depth here, but I just saw the quick clip for the all new iPhone 4 and realized that some of these features being rolled out as “revolutionary” have already been in existence with BlackBerry.  Sure there are lots of cool features to the iPhone 4, and it does look appetizing to many of us.  But don’t let fancy marketing and good actors fool you.  What ends up happening is that we become introduced to these “new and fresh” features, and because they make it look so cool, we almost forget that those “new and fresh” features have existed in other devices for quite some time.  We didn’t go so in depth here, and just covered up what we generally saw in Apple’s iPhone 4 teaser trailer which launched officially today.  Hit the jump to see the full scoop on what we saw Apple has implemented in the iPhone 4 which has existed in BlackBerry for years.
