Earlier this morning we let you know about RIM spilling some beans about BBM 6.0.  So here it is.  We don’t get to see any action of BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 here, but we get it officially announced and discussed over at Mobile World Congress 2011.  So here we see some Q&A going on, along with the slide show in the background.

At Mobile World Congress 2011, Adobe has officially announced Flash 10.2.  As the year has gone by, we have been confirmed for Flash 10.1 to work on the BlackBerry PlayBook, and now Adobe says 10.2 will be supported as well.  In their official statements at the event, they make more mentions on Android tablets supporting it along with some mobile handsets – hoping to see on QNX powered BlackBerry smartphones!  Some cool stuff about 10.2 is that video performance gets improved by decreasing processor and memory usage – which should call for better battery life on the PlayBook, right?  Hit the jump for the full press release from Adobe.

RIM just announced on Inside BlackBerry and on the Gist blog that they have acquire Gist.  There are no future details written here or anything, and we haven’t obtained the press release yet.  Just a quick notice that Gist joins Research in Motion and that they look forward to the future. Gist is an awesome service which combines your contact list with the web.  It gathers contact info from everywhere and gets it all narrowed down for you to get easy access.  Sounds a bit similar to Xobni, but this is definitely exciting stuff here.  I’m hoping we see better contact management now in the future with BlackBerry, not that I have an issue with it now, but enhancements and add-ons are always great.

Our friends over at BBNews.pl snapped a photo showing a sign that says BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 will be presented up next.  So we’re on the edge of our seats here hoping we see a lot of good stuff here as we broke out some leaked out details on BBM 6.0 a few weeks ago which sounded pretty exciting.  Also, we want to know what’s up with video chat on the PlayBook – will there be video chat within BBM?  Stay tuned guys!

First day of Mobile World Congress 2011 and of course we were expecting to see more PlayBook action.  Here we see a quick demo of the recently announced Need for Speed for the BlackBerry PlayBook, which will be available and preloaded at the launch of the tablet.  The game is awesome, but I love that we see the game displayed a television set as the PlayBook itself is actually connected to it via HDMI wire.  Game looks great and just as smooth as it would on an iPad.

Right off the bat,  I saw this as RIM putting out a platform that allows you to buy apps for others as gifts via BBM.  That’s cool, a bit corny though, and not worth a press release.  Instead what this really enables you to do is not only buy and gifts apps, but airtime as well.  This is to work on different carriers as well, where you’ll be able to gift airtime through App World for yourself or give to a friend. You can have it on your phone bill, or pay for it instantly. It’s going to be interesting seeing carriers sign up with this where they’ll obviously be sharing profits with RIM now since it’s their stuff in App World.  Continue reading for the full press release.

So Sprint wasn’t RIM’s dead end when it came to the BlackBerry PlayBook.  Also, it’s keeping it 4G too, which we’re glad to see that RIM is moving forward with that, rather than getting itself stuck in 3G.  So today they have announced that they are having the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook for LTE and HSPA networks as well.  So now we have four PlayBook models:

  • BlackBerry PlayBook with Wi-Fi
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + WiMax
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + LTE
  • BlackBerry 4G PlayBook with Wi-Fi + HSPA+

Also, each tablet will support:

  1. Bluetooth tethering
  2. Mobile hotspots (ie. a MiFi™, smartphone or other portable device equipped to act as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot)
  3. BlackBerry Bridge

Which one will you go for? We got the full press release for you after the jump!

Mobile World Congress is here.  We let you know earlier about the BlackBerry Mobile World Congress site put up to get updates and live pictures of the event.  What I noticed on the main page there is the video which I haven’t seen before. It’s all about Super Apps.

For all you BlackBerry users out there, you understand what Super Apps are and how well they integrate in your BlackBerry within other applications.  This video does a great job explaining Super Apps and how they are different from just apps in general.
