UPDATE: According to the comments we received, it looks like the app is in French and doesn’t support trackpad devices. Bit of a bummer but if anyone sees otherwise, drop a line!
So all of you who have been missing out on webkit action due to lack of BlackBerry 6 can now get in on it, sort of. There’s been a leak of Opera Mini 5 for OS 5.0 devices which includes OS 6.0 webkit. So enjoy using the web to its maximum potential now. Hopefully the link is still good when you guys try downloading it, but if it’s down, it’s because it’s a leak (obviously). It looks like this one’s a desktop download though and not an OTA. If anyone feels like making one, let us know! So for now, download the files and upload them via BlackBerry Desktop Manager to put on your BlackBerrys.
I personally haven’t tried this one out yet, so if it comes up not working or working, let us know via Twitter or the comments below about your experiences.
Thanks Ehab for spotting this one!

The folks over at BBNews.pl spotted this Dilbert comic that exemplifies how slow a mobile browser can be. I see this being in perfect relation with the latest webkit browser on BlackBerry 6 OS as many haven’t been too happy with its speeds. What do you guys think?

Let’s face it. The new webkit BlackBerry Browser is not so standard to us all at the moment. It’s still something new and upcoming, and even after yesterday’s demonstrations and hands-on experiences, we’re still a bit baffled when it comes to functionality. So Inside BlackBerry has posted up an overview guide to how the webkit browser works including all its new functions. Included in the guide is:
- New Start Page
- Tabbed Browsing
- Social Feeds Integration & Options Menu
- Viewing Content Made Easy
Head over to Inside BlackBerry to get the full scoop on the new webkit browser in BlackBerry 6

Browsing via BlackBerry? Click here to view video
This is the first BlackBerry Bold 9780 video we have ever seen. Seeing BlackBerry 6 live on a non-touch screen device has comforted many of us who have been just looking into touch screen for way too long, making our current devices feel useless. So how’s BlackBerry 6 on a 480 x 360 resolution? I’m like it so far. The menu, webkit browser, and overall speed of the OS is just remarkable. Enjoy this clip!

Browsing via BlackBerry? Click here to view video
It looks like Driphter.com has done it again, but this time it’s a nice hands on experience with the Webkit browser we’re all waiting to try first hand. The device is using WiFi and seems to work really smooth when loading full web sites. What I want to see is how fast it goes over a 3G or even EDGE network. In the video, he mentions it is an early stage and we will see speed improvements in the browser, but who knows?

It’s seems to be right on point. Sort of. We were expecting to see more webkit action hit the streets sooner than now. June is just about over and many over-speculated as RIM has not released OS 6 aka BlackBerry 6 or the BlackBerry Bold/Torch 9800. With name changes still in order, we don’t even expect the device to release as soon as everyone expected. On a brighter note, we got the press release from Adobe that they have released Flash 10.1 to cell phone makers. We do see a mention of BlackBerry along with all other platforms, and expected to arrive “in the coming months.” We’re all excited and I’m sure many of you are for the future of mobile web browsing. Hit the jump for the full press release from Adobe.
