wind mobile 2011 roadmap

WIND Mobile in Canada has some nice BlackBerry devices launching in the near future.  In this roadmap for the carrier leaked out by The Cellular Guru, we see the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and Bold 9790.  Now we already have the Torch 9810 and Bold 9900 launched on many other carriers worldwide, but the Bold 9790 still hasn’t launched so it’s interesting to see in this lineup.  Unfortunately there’s no estimated launch date for it or any of the other devices but I’m sure we’ll see them soon.

WIND Mobile has officially released a new OS for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 – OS 7.0.0.439.  The 9900 has been getting quite a few OS updates lately, while the CDMA 9930 is a bit behind in versions (for now).  So far the OS updates for 9900/9930 have been showing improvements in overall performance which is a good thing.  If you decide to take a jab at this one, let us know how it goes.

Wind Mobile in Canada is selecting some of its customers and sending out a text informing them that they are eligible for free data until April 15th.  According to MobileSyrup, they’re going after BlackBerry users who only have voice plans with no data.  Honestly I don’t know what makes them stuck on a BlackBerry if they have no data – that’s like the whole point of the device I think.  So we’re still in February, so if you’re selected to try out the data plan, you’ll have it until April 15th, long enough to get you addicted to mobile web and BBM so you sign up in the end!

We already saw this version go official with Three UK, but figured we’d let you know about Wind Mobile putting it out for the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300.  The update is available in Desktop Manager for those on Wind currently and want to update.

Back in December, we learned that Wind Mobile was working hard on getting the BlackBerry PlayBook.  The folks over at ITbusiness.ca spoke to some guys from the carrier who claim that they will be announcing the BlackBerry PlayBook soon.  This info goes back to the end of January from a local Wind Mobile event up in Canada.  There’s still no official word from anyone about the carrier getting the PlayBook, it’s nice to hear about it coming to a carrier up north.

Sprint has already announced a BlackBerry 4G PlayBook which is expected to launch by summertime, but we haven’t had any love for Canadians just yet. Rogers has hinted that they would be taking on the tablet, but there’s no word on that yet either.  We’ll have to wait and see who announces it soon enough.

As for Wind Mobile getting the PlayBook , are any of you Canadians interested in going for it?

Thanks Jim for the tip!

Wind Mobile announced on Twitter a few hours ago that they have officially launched the BlackBerry Bold 9780.  For $450, you can grab the latest generation Bold rockin’ BlackBerry 6 OS, 512MB of memory, and a 5MP camera.  Head over to Wind Mobile to read more about it or to purchase.

Wind Mobile is very much new and upcoming with BlackBerry smartphone this year. We’re happy to see that they are catching up as far as device variety goes.  Last we heard from them was that they are working on hard on getting the BlackBerry PlayBook, which doesn’t indicate any confirmations at all, but still nice to hear.

Aside from all that, it looks like the BlackBerry Bold 9780 has hit up their inventory system as seen in the leaked screenshot via BGR above.  Wind Mobile isn’t the first to rock the Bold 9780 as other carriers including Rogers already have it.  The Bold 9780 is a refresh of the Bold 9700 where it now has 512MB of memory, comes stock with BlackBerry 6 OS, and rocks a 5MP camera.

So more buzz has surfaced on the BlackBerry PlayBook today other than the Rogers announcement this morning.  There’s no official word here but a representative from WIND Mobile stated on video that they are working hard on getting the BlackBerry PlayBook to offer to their customers in 2011.  So I guess it’s a bit of excitement for Canadians, but we’d like to hear what US carriers will be carrying the PlayBook as well.  Our assumptions will of course be the GSM carriers AT&T and T-Mobile, but there’s no telling if both will get it to begin with.

Back to WIND Mobile, it looks like they’re reaching far out for the next year in best efforts to put out the best devices as they have mentioned Android devices and do carry BlackBerry at the moment now, recently launching the BlackBerry Curve 3G.

That was sooner than expected but it looks like Wind Mobile has officially launched the BlackBerry Pearl 3G.  In specific the SureType 9100 version was chosen, rather than the “T9″ styled 9105.  Last week when we announced that Wind Mobile was launching the Pearl 3G, we mentioned a price of $320 but in reality it’s $300 after the rebates (gotta be technical).  There’s no online ordering here, but you can head over to Wind Mobile to find a store closest to you.  Rebates are not available until after September 15th.

According to a post on Howard Forums, Wind Mobile is launching the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 for $320 with no contract.  Unfortunately there is no launch date or coming soon ads on their site yet but I’m sure there will be a sign up page to be notified when it’s available in the near future.
